Newb warlock question.

Hello guys.

Re-rolled a warlock and he's currently level 24 and I require some more information on the rotation I use to kill mobs.

I've been dotting the mob up and then just wanding it to death until it dies. (Voidwalker tanking of course)

Should I spam Shdowbolt instead of wanding it to death? Shadowbolt seems heavy on mana but I have life tap and dran life I suppose. :/

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, T.

Hi Denic, ...
Yes~!,..keep your dot's up all the time as you already seem to be doing.
I guess there are 3 things you can do at this time.

1. Dot & wand. I don't mind this myself. It keeps your wanding skill up, but also keep upgrading your wand. Soon however, ...(after level 30?) wanding may not be enough DPS. Alternative is to Fear + Wand

2. Add shadow bolts. This will drop the mob faster if you are in a hurry, but will need to life tap more often, ...and then need to drain life you next mob to get some life back. Experiment~!

3. Fear and drain life. This was my favorite. Dot->Fear -> life tap ->Drain life -> siphon soul to top things off.
This is a great (almost) non stop way to keep going. Throw those extra soul shards in the bank,..give strangers health stones...etc..

Drain tanking probably will be a good alternative with a succubus when you start hitting the mid to high 30's.

There are some great articles here on "drain tanking" Do a forum search too get more info if you are unsure what this technique is.

Cheers~!

Re: Newb warlock question.

Hey again people.

I'm after another piece of advice if possible, which spec would seem to be the best for leveling up with ?

I'm currently following :
Level 10-14 : 5/5 Improved Corruption
Level 15-16 : 2/2 Improved Drain Soul
Level 17-19 : 3/5 Suppression
Level 20-24 : 5/5 Fel Concentration
Level 25-26 : 2/2 Grim Reach
Level 27-28 : 2/2 Improved Life Tap
Level 29 : 1/1 Amplify Curse
Level 30 : 1/1 Siphon Life
Level 31 : 1/1 Curse of Exhaustion
Level 32-33 : 2/2 Soul Siphon
Level 34 : 1/5 Shadow Embrace
Level 35-39 : 5/5 Shadow Mastery
Level 40 : 1/1 Dark Pact
Level 41-45 : 5/5 Contagion
Level 46-47 : 2/2 Improved Howl of Terror
Level 48-49 : 2/2 Improved Curse of Agony OR Nightfall.
Level 50 : 1/1 Unstable Affliction
Level 51-53 : 3/3 Empowered Corruption
Level 54-55 : 5/5 Suppression
Level 56-60 :5/5 Demonic Embrace

But I've just read a guide here that said to do :

10-15 Improved Corruption
16-21 Demonic Embrace
22-23 Improved Drain Soul
24-26 Improved Voidwalker
27-29 Suppression
30-34 Fel Concentration
35-36 Grim Reach
37 Amplify Curse
38 Siphon Life
39 Shadow Embrace
40-41 Soul Siphon
At 41 your talent tree will look like this:
42 Curse of Exhaustion
43-44 Improved Life Tap
45-49 Shadow Mastery
50 Dark Pact
51-55 Contagion
56-57 Improved Howl of Terror
58 Unstable Affliction
59-61 Improved Imp
62-64 Demonic Aegis
65-67 Fel Intellect
68 Fel Domination
69-70 Master Summoner

Which one seems to be best?

Cheers

Re: Newb warlock question.

Well what do YOU want?
I leveled as destro all the way up to 60, SM ruin when I was 60. Specced full affiction when I started leveling again...

My advise is you finding your end build and work towards there...

Re: Newb warlock question.

In my mid 40's.. I dot life tap and drain life. its a bit slower but keeps me at almost 100% health. I will throw out a Soul Siphon if I fall behind in mana.
I rarely need to stop for HP or mana.

Re: Newb warlock question.

Hi Denic,
The 1st talent progression you listed is the way I personally went.
At level 48 - 49 I went with nightfall.
My personal experience with this progression went very smoothly.
Granted, ...i leveled along with an ice mage almost the enter time, but when i went solo, i had no problems what-so-ever. We used the VW as a built in mini tank right till around level 64 - 65. After that, ..i just now use my improved IMP. The Affliction is arguably the better, (and probably easier) leveling route, But some like Duckie up above said he went destro, ..and did'nt say anything negative about it. But i would assume Affliction might be more mana friendly, ...but you will kill things a bit slower. Your choice.

I personally have yet to try the fel guard, but you MAY want to try it out at level 55. Most here have suggested to wait till then to try the fel Guard. Obviosly, some people here love the Fel Guard.

Other Fel Guard players, ..please correct me if i'm wrong, ..but my personal opinion of the Fel Guard build is that it is a VERY good PVP starter ( along with some destro talents), and has a bit more survivablility, and does well in 5 mans.

As an Affliction lock, ...i liked my role in 5 mans. It's not graphically nice and all as other players will only see dot's appearing on the mobs with very little graphics comng from your toon other than shadow bolts.
(I've had other players actually ask me if i was doing anything at all during a battle?.!~?!?....i guess he was expecting to see more "stuff coming from me)

Hope some of this helps.

Cheers~!

Re: Newb warlock question.

Check the sig for my preferred 'fast' leveling build. You can level with any build, but the superior health and mana regen (SiLi, Drain Life, Soul Siphon, Dark Pact, imp Drain Soul, imp Lifetap) makes Affliction top-notch for leveling.

Re: Newb warlock question.

Go with the first one. Dark Pact at level 40 does wonders for your grinding and basically means little to none downtime.
