Hotkey Suggestions
Im looking for ideas for quick and easy hotkey assignments to the important spells. Right now im level 38 so i have a ways to go still, but this is my current hotkey setup:
1- Drain life 2- Siphon life 3- Corruption 4- Curse of Agony Shift 1- nothing as of yet Shift 2- Shadowbolt Shift 3- Immolate Shift 4- Fear I figure when fighting these are the skills most often used so i want them in close proximity to my movement keys. As I level up and get some other spells I will adjust (namely Howl of Terror, and Deathcoil). This is more for pvp, as pve moves slow enough (not slow but slow enough) that I can just click on things that arent hotkeys, like other curses and such. Im thinking I should expand it to include a spot for Curse of Exhaustion, Curse of Tongues as well as HoT and Deathcoil, these four spells + the ones already hotkeyed i feel like are the ones that really matter for pvp. If anyone has better suggestions im open to them, this is my first time playing WoW, and the only old hotkey type game I played was Diablo 2, and the hotkeys were nothing compared to the amount of spells available in this game. Sorry if i rambled, thanks! |

Re: Hotkey Suggestions
Always put strafe on "a" and "d" (ofc using mouse to turn)
Use therefore "q" and "e" for something useful. Also - get a mouse that has a rollerbutton you can click both left and right - its really invaluable, I have bound pet attack on left-clicking roller, and drain-life on right click, but depends (tonight I had SoC on the mouse button when fighting Illhoof). Personally I pretty much have the most important set to 1-4 an q and e. |

Re: Hotkey Suggestions
thats interesting, I never thought to put strafe there, and just turn with the mouse. As for the mouse, i have a mouse that has left click, right click and the wheel, thats all it has, is that what you mean, if not have a link to the type of mouse you suggest?
That setup of strafe and turn with just the mouse will be tough getting used to at first i bet, but since im 38 i will have a lot of time to do so. Thanks you! Anyone else have suggestions or opinions on these suggestions. |

Re: Hotkey Suggestions
My first post! Since its patch time I'll make it war&peace. I actually spent considerable time setting up my hotkeys. I use a Logitech G11 keyboard (I don't use the G-keys but I wish that I could bind them to some bars, oh well) and G5 laser mouse (has 5 buttons and a scroll wheel with left/right tilt (MWL & MWR)). MB1 & 2 are standard as per any mouse. MB3 is on the left side typically used for "go back" on a web browser. MB4 & MB5 are way too small and difficult to get to in a hurry so I've mapped these to non-urgent abilities e.g Demon Armour.
I have found the following set up pretty good for me so far - I don't have all my spells yet, so there maybe some adjustments yet. I've centred it around speed and reaction, trying to group similar themed abilities so that I can remember where they are and flow kinda naturally. Given the complexity I found it important to spend time getting used to the binding so that they are second nature. Otherwise, when it come to the crunch you will fall in a mess. MOVEMENT Try to keep WASD position as best as possible (if you hold right mouse button down whilst moving you strafe and this is important). Across my characters I use the mouse for instant abilities (where possible) and generally have right side of WASD as offensive abilities, these include "2345ERTFG" and Shift modifier version of all these (6 is too far so is best left for rare occasion things). Alt is a modifier for some also, but mainly for self targeting and defensive side modifiers. I have left side "`12Q" and "ZX" row as defensive/utility type abilities; I have thought of using "C&V" but am too much in habit of hitting C for character - I may try to incorporate these too as some point but I even use V and Shift V on my druid to swap into healing mode in BGs (change the hover on head lifebar thingys so I can heal friendlies) OFFENSIVE My offence side setup is: On mouse I try to only bind only instant cast abilities for PVP reasons - that is, so that I can run around and cast without moving from WASD position as movement is critical. MB3: Life Tap (thinking of moving this to Alt MB3) Shift MB3: Dark Pact (thinking of swapping with Life Tap now that I have DP) Alt MB3: Reserved for instant ability (been thinking of putting CoEx here or at MB3 and Life Tap here) MWL: Siphon Life (I was stupidly leveling as destro a few weeks back and had Shadowburn here)Shift MWL: Curse of Agony Alt MWL: Reserved for Shadowburn or other instant cast MWR: instant Corruption Shift MWR: reserved (would be perfect for Curse of Doom i think) Alt MWR: reserved maybe Seed of Corruption though not an instant cast Scroll forward - Pet attack Scroll back - Pet passive/pet follow macro Shift scroll forward - currently for summoning pets Shift scroll back - haven't used yet, but may for summoning pets 3 - Searing Pain (location is easy reach to say "taunt" a mob off healer before seducing/draintanking, or in PVP. Shift 3 - Immolate - likely to get turfed for Unstable Affiction when i get it and put Immolate onto Alt 3 Alt 3 - was going to be for Conflagrate before I smartly respeced to Affliction now it might be Immolate. Alt Shift 3 - Rain of Fire (rank 1) - not implemented yet - but intended for antistealth - Hellfire just stays as a click ability or in the spell book. 4 - Shadowbolt (can be instance so no modifier on this themed to slow casting spells) Shift 4 - reserved for Incinerate (slow) Alt 4 - reserved for Soul Fire (slow can also just be a clicky) 5 - Curse of Tongues Shift 5 - Curse of Weakness (for pets) Alt 5 - is too difficult for me to reach from WASD position. 6 - Anti totem (basically get pet to attack it) (difficult to get to) Shift 6 - reserved (difficult to get to) E - Pet abilities (seduce/spell lock/AoE taunt macro) (focus target macro) Shift E - Enslave Demon R - Curse of Exhaustion thinking of moving to mouse Shift R - Banish Demon (with focus target macros) F - Fear Shift F - Curse of Recklessness (rank1 only) (antifear) for fear bouncing G - Soul drain (rank 1) of course Shift G - Health funnel T - Drain Life (Y - is now my chat) Shift T - Drain Mana DEFENSIVE/UTILITY Q - Panic button (Scream , Free Action Potion, Healthstone)Shift Q - Howl of Terror (will be instant) Alt Q - Death Coil 1 - Trinket 1 Alt 1 - Trinket 2 Shift 1 - Will of the Forsaken ` - Invisibility Potion (was once my shadowmeld) Alt ` - Catseye Potion (I don't use shift with `) 2 - Shadow Ward Shift 2 - reserved for some kind of defensive consumable Alt 2 - reserved for some kind of defensive consumable Z - Pet utility spell (Consume shadows, devour magic etc) Shift Z - Pet utility again (Sacrafice etc) Alt Z - "Dispelling" self targeted devour magic, or use Spellstone X - Heal Potion and Healthstone (together usually if I haven't used panic button) macro Shift X - Mana potion potion Alt X - self targeted Bandage Alt S - Cannabilise Shift Space - Soul shatter reserved Alt Space - Swiftness pot/swim speed pot on a macro Alt-Shift-S - Summon Felsteed Alt-Shift-W - Autorun I think I've got them all. Anyway, everything else is a clicky ability. I use Bartender 3 mod to give me further action bars (faded mostly) to bind keys on and most spells/abilities are mapped via macros to capitalise on /stopcasting and quartz mod and autocasting Amplify Curse. As an example, I can cast a spell on a friendly and hit their target (no need for assist button etc). This is a different topic again. Best advise is just adapt your own style of play and keybinds to support I guess. Main thing is that as the complexity increase, so does the time you require to get them to become second nature otherwise your fingers will end in a knot . Hopefully, the above give you and others some ideas of your own.Last edited by Thralock; October 30, 2007 at 09:46 AM. |

Re: Hotkey Suggestions
PvP Setup...
Left Hand Nostromo n52 http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=157024 (rows, last row with wheel click, wheel not used) Shadowbolt - StrafeLeft - MoveForward - StrafeRight - PetAttackMacro MoveBackward - ShadowWard - Will of the Forsaken - UseHealstone - Intercept PvPTrinket - Hellfire - SoulFire - SearingPain - LifeTap Thumb buttons Curse of Agony - TabTarget - Corruption - Immolate (red) DrainLife (big one) Death Coil Right hand (Logitech MX 518) Left/Right default Middle jump Mouse 4 autorun (will probably change this some day) Mouse 5 Fear "+" key: Shadowburn "-" key: Drain Soul "App" key: Curse of Tongues I consider getting the new Razer Lachesis as it will offer an additional mouse button... I could use it for sure :-)... http://www.razerzone.com/index.php?m...products_id=72 My n52 is worn out and I will probably get the new version: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=390404 Default Stuff like Bags etc remain on notebook keyboard. Don't need that very often in Arena... I tried modifier setups, but it was very very tricky to get used to it. |
