Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
Hi,
Lvl58 Affl Lock here, who for some crazy reason has just figured out that in some cases, outside of instances, a feared Mob doesn't cause other mobs he runs across to aggro on me. However, sometimes it does work that way. In east plaguelands, soloing/grinding, i could fear continuosuly and not pick up any other mobs. But in Felwood, while teamed up with a Guildie, I trtied it on a Demon in an encampment, and it pulled all of them on to us. So what are the rules for Feared Mobs pulling other mobs down on your head, both inside and outside of instances? Do all Fear-based spealls (Fear, HoT, and DC) work the same in this sense? Thanks |

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
I haven't feared a mob in a while (drain tanking FTW) so I can't recall exactly , but I'm pretty sure most humanoid mobs (including demons) will aggro each other , while beasts and such will not.
Just think about it , there are always group of linked humanoids , but you'll never see a group of linked owls now will you? ![]() |

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
Basically, a mob will not agro others not of the same type (may be a better way to describe). If you fear a bear into a mob of humans it will not pull them, if you fear a human into a mob of demons it will not pull. etc...

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
Each mob type can be classed as "social". when it is a social type, proximity aggro occurs during fear or kiting etc. Dependant on the distance of the social mob you have aggro'd to the nearest other mob of that type. This means you can pull singles, but you have to be careful.
This is not the same as linked mobs, which are programed to aggro together regardless of distance. |

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
With that said, use it to really help others enjoy this wonderful game we call WOW.
Example: You are doing what you normally do, be it questing, grinding, gathering, or just going from one place to another. Lo and behold, you come across another adventurer of the opposite faction, hopefully an Ally. Now, he is also minding his own biz and is engaged in combat with a mob. You take a quick survey of the situation and you see that he will easily defeat this mob. Now, being the trained and observant lock that you are, in your quick scan of the situation you observed that this area is dense with the same mobs that this adventure is presently engage in combat with. Now being the helpful warlock that you are, you want to help this person out; it’s just the friendly thing to do. So, you Fear the mob he is fighting. Now, the Feared mob will realize how much fun this is so he will get a few buddies of his to also help the person enjoy the situation to its maximum potential. So, this adventurer that you came across who could easily handle one mob without breaking a sweat, is now really enjoying himself along with the new friends he made all of a sudden. Now, not wanting to be a party crasher, you back out quickly so not to interfere in the joy this adventure is sharing with his new friends. After the party is over, which usually is quick, these lonely mobs will seek you out. They will come looking for you, but being the wise and considerate lock that you are, you had gracefully declined the invite by having backed out moments before. So there you have it; you have not only increased someone else’s adventuring pleasure, but you have also witnessed that social interaction of mobs wanting to share their fun. Man, it’s great to be a Lock! Last edited by Carnos; October 30, 2007 at 06:58 AM. |

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
Just a thought on the fearing someone's mob reply above, but what would happen if you feared the ally/horde doing the fighting?
Surely they would pick up all the said mobs in the same way but without transferring aggro when they're dead? ![]() |

Re: Fear: When Will A Feared Mob Aggro Others?
what is the situation if somebody taggs a mob after my dots have started running, the mob has aggro on me, and i fear it away; adding several more mobs, NPCs being such social beings. would the ninja-tagger be on the aggro list of the added mobs as well as the feared one, or not? And what would i have to do to get myself out of combat, to return to see the would be ninja getting owned by the adds? I ask this because of the change to banish, making it impossible to banish a tagged creep...
