Curse of Doom and trinkets

This is most likely a stupid question, but I've not managed to find any concrete answer to it - either people don't know, or I get conflicting answers.

When is the best time to use a +spell damage trinket (such as the Ancient Crystal Talisman) when casting Curse of Doom - just before you cast it, or just before it is about to land on the target?

Sorry bout the stupidity of the question, but I am wanting to know when the best time to drop a trinket is on this spell.

Trinket before you cast to apply the bonus spelldamage.

It's not a stupid question at all.

hmm...with CoD, should you be hitting the trinket before you CoD or right before the 1 minute is up for when it hits? As most trinket effects dont last a full minute...by the time CoD hits if you trinket before you cast, the effect has been long been timed out....

the bonus damage is applied to the spell when you cast it, not when it actually hits.

I'm be creatng a macro to cast either trinket prior to Curse of Doom as soon as I get home.

User side effects are applied at cast (like trinket buffs, spellstrike/t4/etc procs, netherspite blue beam buff, shaman totem buff, etc).

Mob side effects are applied at moment of damage hit (like ISB proc, CoS, shadoweaving, curator vulnerability, etc).
