PVP as Destruction

After seeing all the threads about destruction i thought i would spec to it after never ever being able to get it to work properly (for pvp). I collect all the felweave gear and silk gear for pvp and roll with 24% crit with talents (34% on searing pain).
I spec'd heavy into dest, only got instant corrupt and stam out of the other tree's. 8/7/46 (yes im sure it could be better).

Anyhow....how does it go. Well coming from Long time Felguard runner, then SL/SL (even a short time 43/7/11) you notice how its weaker defensively. The main issue is lack of SL or Instant cast howl of terror. With either of these the spec i feel would work. How can you make up for this?
Well i ran with my sucubus out in stealth, and kept her out of the fight until it was about 10 seconds old (she is more likely to survive that way). Instant cast Curse of Agony and Corr, death coil if melee'd, instant cast shadow bolt (if backlash proc's), shadowfury for stun, fear, immolate, incinerate, conflag, shadowburn. Most are dead by then assuming i get a crit. If they are not just hit them with backlash procs (which are very often).
Casters, its just a matter of nuking away. Warlocks were especially fun. Felhunter on me proc's backlash constantly(same with hunters pets with curse of weakness on them). You become a shadow bolt machine gun. With crits flowing round the 3k mark things die really quick.

I found it alot harder to manage and your dps pretty much relies on you being hit. You can't cast and run. You have to shadowfury them, seduce/fear, nuke, run.

Can it work? Yes and No. With another DPS class, like a hunter and a good healer in 3man team then yes. Slow traps, hunter scatter shot etc can give you the space to nuke. Combined burst could be enough. But the spec really needs an instant fear like affliction...then i can see it working for PVP or a longer stun on shadowfury.

So i will continue to collect my felweave gear in S3, but i doubt i will ever play destruction seriously in arena till they release the WOTK.

Re: PVP as Destruction

I think it may work with a good healer where you keep your felhunter ready to devour any ill effect from him.

If you opponents somehow take your healer out of game for a few secs then you're dead. Because no Soul link and a backlash proc is like having a big neon spot on you " KILL ON SIGHT"

Re: PVP as Destruction

I personally love Destruction as PVP. As long as you can get some distance from your opponent you will destroy them. I find running and hiding is the best way. You really need to lean who can can and can't fear though that helps tons. Also, tons of dueling other classes will help you figure out how to cope with melee classes.
