maxdps.com question

I checked this site out and it seems a bit confusing. I'm trying to find out my max dps. Do I enter gear? It's check boxes for world drops? Can anyone tell me how this site is supposed to work? Thanks.

Re: maxdps.com question

That site is meant to find which gearpieces are the best for which slots with your current stats. Fill in your current stats and then click the icons at the bottom to see a list of which items will increase your dps the most for that slot.

It's not really great, but if you tweak stats a bit you can get some usefull info here and there.

Shame they haven't made a demon and destro version yet. I'm missing a few checkboxes to make a decent judgement which gearpiece is better then another.

Also note that they ignore setbonusses for relative gearvalue. That's annoying considering the setbonus is what makes 2-piece T4 and 4-piece T6 better then other choices.

Re: maxdps.com question

It designed to tell you what gear is better tan what you have. It appears to use different formulas than the leulier spreadsheet.

Enter you current specs, talents, etc. Click on the gear you wish to evaluate and it ranks best to worse along with gemming.

It also shows you what DPS you should be doing, according to the stats you enter. This is on the right side of the screen. At the bottom is where it gives you gear choices depeding on the type of drop you entered on the left side.

Re: maxdps.com question

It's "special" though:

The results differ from what many avid theorycrafters suggest. For example Curse of Agony > CoD/CoS if you have Imp Curse of Agony. Or: Immolate in Affliction > without it. Or: After 60 +hit damage gets weighed stronger than it. Etc. pp.

I think it's a good starting point still not perfect, but I always thought that it was the case with the famous Excel sheet as well.

You can just put your data in and put some stats and options on/off and check for your dps. The suggested upgrade is kinda funny because it doesn't realize what your OLD gear was... So when it says: You should get Spellstrike Hood because of Hit/Damage/Crit it can even mean you already have Spellstrike Hood... When reaching boundaries like 202 hit it's also hard to assume what to do next. I think you get the point.

Re: maxdps.com question

Yea, it is still fairly new and being worked on, but it is a good start. Not perfect, but gives you an idea

Re: maxdps.com question

Oh ok I was looking for something to calculate what my max dps would be using my current gear, stats, etc. so I can get an idea of how I'm doing against my theoretical max.

Re: maxdps.com question

you're better off getting a mod like recount or SWstats and run it on a boss fight, grab some numbers then go download leulier (sp?) spreadsheet and work out your theoretical dps

altho tbh i prefer to use wowwebstats for "live" dps vs theoretical dps

WWS is the best! I love it. I prefer it over anything else as far as evaluating performance.

Re: maxdps.com question

I like the maxdps.com site. I've used it to help me decide what gear I should go for next. So, I use it mainly for the gear. It can help me see gear I didn't know existed. For one example would be some PVP items that are easily attainable and can help.
