Affliction: Can't take on more than 1 mob at a time
I think I've read every post about affliction here, but I can't make it. If I try to take more then 2 mobs I often end upp dead
.First mob: UA -> SL -> Corr -> Curse of Agony -> running to next mob. second and third mob: SL -> Corr -> Curse of Agony -> HoT -> DL or DS Having an Imp out for DP when I have the time. They never die after the first HoT which means I often end up dead instead . And if I survive my health and mana is almost att the bottom. Is my gear bad or is it me just being stupid ![]() Last edited by Konix; February 05, 2008 at 06:41 AM. Reason: More text |

Re: I'm a stupid aff lock
Um....wow
I generally use the same macros for everyone/everything, it goes trinket, amp curse, Curse of Agony, SL, Corr, UA, DL throw in a SB and immolate here and there and your done. I use this macro to stack up my insta cast DoTs on multiple targets if need be generally fast. Your level 63, so your gear will get better, But i use my Felhound when I am out and about because like you, am on a PvP server. I hope this helps. Keep us informed. |

Macro's are fun, but if one dot on the macro gets resisted then you have to recast it manually.

Re: I'm a stupid aff lock
I wasn't able to take on more than 3 mobs at a time until I hit 70 and even then, I would wind up very low on health and mana.
The key, I think, is having the right amount of spell damage (I'm not where I want to be but it's better than it was) to make sure that the mobs are going to drop after your dots tick down. Later on the trick will be figuring out the minimum number of dots you'll need so you don't waste mana. |

Re: I'm a stupid aff lock
The issue is that you are still leveling and have not aquired decent gear yet. It is that simple. Here are the guidelines I usually tell people when that ask about what spec is best.
Spell Damage Bonus over 700 (ish) is best for Affliction. Spell Damage Bonus under 700 (ish) is best for Demonology. Spell Damage Bonus over 1200 (ish) is best for Destruction. This is in general terms and based on new warlocks leveling. Many of us who were lv 60 when The Burning Crusade released have a completely different outlook on spec due to our gear starting off. I dont think I replaces any of my old world epics until lv 65ish and started Outlands at lv 60 with well over 700 spell damage. The basic rule of Affliction you are striving for is Insta-Corr + Siphion + Curse of Agony = Dead Mob. The only way this is going to happen is with a high spell damage bonus. |

Also, maybe I'm wrong about the utility of when to cast UA because of Curse of Agony getting better damage the longer it is on the mob, but wouldn't you cast UA before Curse of Agony or after even just immediately after Curse of Agony because UA has a cast time? By the time you've thrown 3 instant dots in the above example, the mob would be pretty close to you and starting to hit on you making the UA longer cast... As an afflock I'd also like to up my damage and take on multiple mobs. I can pretty much do it, but I'm still playing with my damage. I found my total damage was higher as demonology with felguard out. And taking on several mobs at once was pretty easy because felguard gets aggro on one while I dot it up, then I send felguard to the next and dot it up.. .and by the time I send felguard to a 3rd, the first is close to done. But with the felpup out, I find as affliction, I'm the one with direct aggro... So I use fear (esp. instant howl of terror) a lot more as the CC. Typically when fighting even level mobs, I tend to do UA (because of cast time), then corr (higher damage in the first 10 seconds or so than Curse of Agony), Curse of Agony, SL (now that the mob is probably now beating on me), and then drain life-tank. With 6 shadow effects including 1 point in shadow embrace, drain life heals pretty good. And night fall also procs pretty often with so many shadow damage ticks. So if I get one NF, and then a shadow burn, mob is dead very quickly and I have little mana or life problems . I've toyed with opening shadow bolt, and then UA, and that also works pretty well because UA can get off some cast time while the shadow bolt takes time to travel to the target. But I find the rhythm to not work well for me and I find myself having less mana even if I am dark pacting. |

Re: I'm a stupid aff lock
At about level 63-64, I remembered that I had a Voidwalker and he is actually pretty good. Until then, I always had succy out and drain-tanked.
Send VW to first mob. Dot it up (no immolate since it generates aggro fast) Send VW to second mob. Dot 2nd mob. Drain Life first mob until dead, then go to second. During leveling, I don't think I handled large groups of mobs and never used imp unless I was in a 5-man. But, try a few different things and see what works for you. |

Re: I'm a stupid aff lock
When I started my warlock I was in the same situation for a long time and then one day it just clicked. Give it some time, it's a practiced technique.
Although opinions vary, I personally prefer the VW for multiple mobs. One thing I would stress is to always keep moving, constantly repositioning yourself to keep distance from the mobs. The only time I am not moving around is when I need to cast a non-instant dot (or draining life/drain soul to top off mana at the end of a fight) I've rerolled an undead warlock who is currently 43 and am having great success with multiple mobs, again mostly due to the fact I've had so much practice.
