warlock level 20 help?
I am obviouslly new to wow. I have had a major problem when fighting more then one enemy. I have tried different spell rotations and find myself getting killed by two or three man enemies who are at level 17 every time. I have the first three pets and use them to take off the heat but the enemies attack my minion kill him/her and then kill me. Any advice?

Re: warlock level 20 help?
i would reccomend using the void walker for leveling since he is the best at keeping aggro. also just put all your dots(damage over time like curse of agony and corruption) and just use shadow bolt. good luck man
also i would reccomend leveling with affliction until 50 since felgurad is useful later on against stronger mobs |

Re: warlock level 20 help?
It's easiest to level as affliction. When you take on more than one at a time, let your voidwalker build up some aggro (sit there while he takes a few swings) and then put your dots on all them. Use Curse of Agony if they're not hitting too hard, but if they are Curse of Weakness for melee or Curse of Tongues for spellcasters. Use Drain Life on the one that the void is hitting until it's dead. If he turns on you and won't die soon use Fear. Another option is to fear the extra guy after dotting him. Taking on more than one gets real easy at level 30 when you get Siphon Life.
There's just a lot of things you need to be able to react to. If your void is losing health quick then Health Funnel. If one starts coming to you or if the void is dying too fast use Fear on one. If one attacks you first set your void to attack him. If you can't win run as far as you can then Sacrifice your void and keep running. You will learn to react accordingly in time. I don't know what spells you have or don't have at 20, but they all come in handy often. Warlocks have lots of fault protection, they can mess up a whole bunch before actually causing their own death. |

Re: warlock level 20 help?
Using your VW to tank works very well. If your going to do that i would suggest using omen that way 1) you can see how your gaining aggro versus your VW and 2) when you hit 70 you will be way more familiar with how your spells affect your aggro for grouping and raiding. The above advice is right on the mark.

Re: warlock level 20 help?
Thanks for the advice. I just been having a hell of a time in quests that have three or four mobs sitting around my quest item not moving. I will work on it and thanks everyone for the advice.

Re: warlock level 20 help?
You can only use one -curse-, but curses are only things with 'Curse of' in the name. You -can- cast Curse of Agony and Corruption and SL and Immol all on the same target. If you aren't, that's why you're having such a terrible time.

Re: warlock level 20 help?
Ok, here's what I do...
First, use your distance. No need to get up close to anything. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, you don't want something attaching itself to your behind once you're already in a fight. Now, send the Voidwalker. Wait. Let him crack your target a couple of times and layer on the torment. Then you slap the DOTs on the poor creature. I assume you're ending up "in" the fight, which is what you as a Warlock want to avoid. We're just not made for hand to hand, as we can only use cloth armor. The main thing when you have several attackers on you is to take your time and let the VW do his thing. If you start dealing damage the critters will go for you instead. You need to take the time needed to target the things that are hitting you and let the VW get their attention. Then move off as you slap Curse of Agony on them (you can do that in motion) and begin hitting the other spells you've got. Keep in mind that some spells generate alot of pain for the target and that makes them more likely to break off the attack on your demon and come after you. You may want to lay off fire based spells for instance. You do only get one curse, but that's plenty. Just sit back, target your multiple critters, and let the VW cruise over and begin to smite them. Once they're all engaged, that's when you start to grind them up. Controlling where and when the fight happens is one of our best talents. One thing to adjust to mentally is that you're all about taking your time; you're method of killing is to sort of give the enemy cancer, and then let it whither (at least that's the case for an affliction Warlock). That means that your first reaction should always be to establish a "base of operations" mentality and then go to work. Jumping in early with Shadowbolts guarantees you'll have the target running at you instead of pointlessly beating on your VW. I hope this helped. I've just started over after being out of the game for a year and and leaving a level 70 affliction Lock in storage. I remember getting hammered too. The secret is to learn to "Lord Over" your situation. Stay back, stay clear, get together a quick plan and remain aloof as the targets die, or attack, because they've not got long to live. If you end up in a fight, control the crew with your VW, don't get damage happy, and get to safety so you can avoid the melee. Good luck! |

Re: warlock level 20 help?
A couple of pointers to add.
I don't remember 3 or 4 mob pulls being at all common. Try from a different angle, you can probably whittle the pull down. Or get a friend. Or gain 2 or 3 levels and come back with a little more power and better items. Most of the time you simply don't have to take this many mobs at once. Otherwise, what other people have said. Around level 40 you want to load up on shadow damage, as it's possible to go tank mobs yourself, and take 2 or 3 at once if they're weaker or you keep your gear up to date, for a very efficient grinding strategy known as "drain tanking" it's in the tutorial library somewhere and kicks off after 30 as drain life's damage starts to exceed the mana cost and by 40, you can get most of the shadoweave set, dark pact, and drain life just keeps getting better. |
