Tips for increasing DPS during raids/instances.
Ok, so everyone knows us warlocks as top dps'ers. I remember when I was leveling my warlock and doing raids with my rogue, I would see the locks and their insane dps and think to myself, "that's going to be my lock one day."
So, now came the day that my warlock hit 70. HOORAY, right? WRONG. OMG. My dps was so freaking low, I was even below the tank. AND talk about embarassing when even the healer was doing more damage than you. It would bug me because I felt I was slowing down the group. On damage meters, the others would be contributing around 30-40% of damage, while I only gave a measly 14-17% My friend kept reassuring me that this was all because my lock was still a nublet and undergeared, so I worked even harder in getting new gear. My main issue was not knowing what type of gear to get until someone explained to me how spell damage and spell hit was vital in a lock. I had an enlightening moment! Kind of like when I first realized what AP and agi did for my rogue. Ok, so now that my lock is somewhat decently geared, I'm still at the bottom of the charts and it's still frustrating. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've been reading this forum religiously for about the past 2-3 days, reading up on tips, strats, etc. and nothing has been helping me increase my damage. My spell damage is ~840 with Fel Armor (740 without) and my spell hit rating is about 80 with PVE gear. It gets lower with the PVP gear. I keep reading about the importance of spell hit, so I've been trying to get it up and trying to farm for mats for enchants to hopefuly help power up the lock. So does my low spell hit have anything to do with it? Or does the fact that most of the people I run with are a bit better geared than I and they're taking down the mobs fast and not letting my lock get her ticks in? I normally start with Curse of Agony, Corruption, Soul Siphon and then either cast UA or do shadowbolt on trash mobs and with bosses, I normally do Amp Curse, CoD, Soul Siphon, Corruption, and UA and keep them up while doing Shadowbolt. I'm even contemplating switching to destro if it'll help. So yeah, any tips, criticism, etc. are more than welcome, please just help me not suck. ![]() P.S. I have no decent trinkets and have been trying for eons to try to get the trinket from H MgT. I had some trinkets prior but my sister kind of destroyed them when I let her use my lock. Re: Tips for increasing DPS during raids/instances.
Ok, there are two vitally important things that you have missed:
Basic guide to Affliction DPS - The Warlocks Den Forums Gearing Your Warlock (2.4 Edition) - The Warlocks Den Forums I have to assume you've not read the "Gearing your Warlock" thread because so much of your gear isn't gemmed or enchanted in any way. If you have questions about your gear feel free to read this thread and then post according to the format: How to submit a 'Rate my Gear' thread. (READ FIRST!!) - The Warlocks Den Forums If you have questions about talents - the same caveat applies: How to submit a talent build question! - The Warlocks Den Forums Finally - helping to increase your DPS output is perhaps the most common question we get asked and there have been many threads over the last few months covering every aspect of every build. If you take the time to search the forum thoroughly I'm sure your dilligence will be rewarded. |
