Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
I am just starting to seriously consider pumping out Brilliant Wizard Oil for me an other crit casters in the Guild for Raiding (T5/T6 Content atm).
Brilliant Wizard Oil Requires Level 45Use: While applied to target weapon it increases spell damage by up to 36 and increases spell critical strike rating by 14. Lasts for 1 hour. Vs Superior Wizard Oil Requires Level 58Use: While applied to target weapon it increases spell damage by up to 42. Lasts for 1 hour. Ignoring the costs/grinding mats issue (well pre wotlc lots of raiders have plenty money for consumables as they have capped all badge gear and gems - and are just selling gems/vortexs from Badges for money) Ok so down to business - 6 less damage vs 14 crit rating? For crit casters (demo / destr locks) who are past Kara this has to be better imho due to the crit bonus for bane/ruin spec locks. Don't think it is in the leur spreadsheet so I cant theorycraft it. TBH I forgot I had the recipe (ZG rep reward old school) until I ran scholo with some lower level guildies and ended up with 14 Shards. With 2 or 3 level 70's I think you could clear most of scholo in an hour = 7 pots = 35 charges. What do people think? worth the effort for improved raiding dps? |

Re: Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
my guess would be that for Destro locks the Brilliant Oil would be great but i keep looking for this on the AH on my server (Khaz Modan - US) and haven't had any luck finding any.. my guess is no1 can be bothered grinding ZG rep any more but i'd gladly sacrifice 6 spell damage for the 14 crit..

Re: Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
Definitely the Extra crit for progression runs. I use the Superior for heroics and day to day stuff.

Re: Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
Brilliant is better then superior for nearly every build it is simply more expensive/harder to make. There are numerous threads about this and it is in the spreadsheet under the buffs section.

Re: Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
Yes its been covered in other threads
(and it is in the spreadsheet, check under buffs). Brilliant is 6-7dps better. Might not sound like much but every little helps and thats without placing a value on the slight improvement to ISB Uptime. For more info on consumables (ignore the comment at the end) this is a good guide: Warlock Consumables Guide - The Warlocks Den Forums |

Re: Brilliant Wizard Oil Vs Superior
Guess I'm blind...I did run a search for wizard oil on the forums but could not find anything...probably not doing it right...
Well all I can say is TY for conclusive and speedy response all, I'm letter all the major crit caster dps know about this - looks like we will have a weekly clear out of Scholo for shards ![]() |
