Seeking general tactics to grind high level instances with a Warlock

OK so i want to know the general tactics to grind high level instances with a warlock, let's say BRD for example

I've seen a couple of videos showing paladins and druids running BRD and they are killing about 25+ mobs at a time

now the problem is that a warlock is a clothie... so shity armor and defence, so I'm asking is there a way to farm these dungeons and kill 20 or more mobs at the same time while not actually dying

thanks for the help

20 or more? no. We're not an AoE class.

However, take a couple lowbie healers with you, and you can use SL/SL to grind the instance quite effectively. Killing groups of 4-5 without much hurting, and bosses are pretty much cake.

re: Seeking general tactics to grind high level instances with a Warlock

Have soloed and killed everything up to and including past Fineus Darkvire a while back, but time constraints stopped me moving further and haven't been back in.

Must try again some time :-)

BTW - no spec change - this is as a 0/21/40 Lock.

But basically, there are two things that are your best friends here:

1. The big blue guy used carefully will give you what you need with careful pulling, even with larger packs.

2. You can sneak past a few more problems than you might anticipate, although I must admit half the fun for me is killing everythig.

Take enough shards just in case :-)

Next biggest problem is bag space for the loot - may not be highest value stuff - but I hate throwing it away :-(

LBRS is also quite easy.

I am sure that with a demonology spec and the availability of the felguard as well as the better VW these would be more fun :-) (I should try a respec during a raiding quiet period)

Re: Seeking general tactics to grind high level instances with a Warlock

I haven’t done much of this since BC but I use to solo Dire Maul East at 60. Use enslave demon and banish when possible. Use fear whenever there is room. Kite / Pull back to what you’ve already cleared to give more room for fear.

I highly suggest affliction for this type of work. Load up dots and run away from the mob while it’s feared. This gives you it’s whole run time towards you after fear breaks for the dots to do their work. Bring bandages to use between fears if needed. Learn the pathing of mobs. Use every ramp or corner to your advantage. Make use of line of sight when fighting casters. You can use a corner to spoil multiple spells by simply switching places with the target as it begins to cast duck around. When it follows and starts to cast again move back.

Curse of Doom is highly useful when you can avoid the mob / keep it feared long enough for it to trigger. Learn when using the VW to get AE agro and when to sacrifice him so you can AE is the most efficient way to clear multiple weak enemies and when it will still come up short and get you killed… Curse of Exhaustion is also very useful in kiting. If you can banish use CoD Basnish(rank2), Banish(rank1) combo to kill it with only a few seconds of vulnerability in between casts.

All the above was designed to kill mobs I could not go toe to toe with and may kill me in 2-3 rounds of melee. If you are fighting in much lower level instances typical drain tanking / DoT kiting tactics would apply.

Re: Seeking general tactics to grind high level instances with a Warlock

I've found Siphon Life to be the best talent for doing this, and SL/SL the best spec to use when solo'ing strat and scholo. Use a voidwalker. If you have 2pc t5 bonus, you have more flexibility with pets, and might be able to go felguard, idk. SL is the most important talent for this IMO. 2pc t6 helps you heal yourself as well.

Destruction is crap for this: destro strat is to gather mobs with void then spam seed and shadowfury, but theres so many downsides. You're capped at how many mobs you can gather up because the voidwalker takes too much punishment, and every pull requires 30 seconds of downtime for mana. Also, suffering is on a two minute CD, which also slows you down. If your void dies alot, you spend lots of shards resummoning which cannot be farmed easily in these instances. If you mismanage and get an add on you instead of void, the pull has already gone sour and you should run out or you'll die.

Ultimately, if you want to chain pull, your gear will have to support it. You need your 3 instant dots to kill every single mob by themselves, hopefully by the time curse of agony has run its duration. If there are healers, or magic immune mobs, this will make it difficult if not impossible to chain pull.
