Destruction DPS 0/21/40

Today I have just respeced from Affliction to Destruction just to try it out since a lot of people say that if I got the gear Destruction could do over 1k dps. I'm not sure if it's my gear or just something I'm doing wrong in my cast rotation. I have 1070 shadow damaged buffed and 810 fire damage. My crit is 14.77% (and for some reason in every group I'm in for a heroic or raid there's always a boomkin so that's a 5% bonus) and my spell hit is 15.57%. My cast rotation is CoE, Immolate, sbolt spam then when immolate has around 3 seconds left I conflag and recast immolate and repeat. I'm for some reason barely getting over 700 dps! Is this just cause I'm not ready or am I ready (talking about gear here) and I'm just not casting my spells right?

I think you would do better if you had some more hit and crit.The ideal to start is 202 hit, tooltip 20% on crit, and over 1000 shadow damage unbuffed I have always been told. Also I usually spec for just shadow damage and use CoE and spam SB as my rotation and I usually run around 1300-1400 dps. The immolate and conflag may be gimpin your dps. This is just from my experience though so i could be wrong.

Typically, 20% unbuffed crit is a starting point, closer to 25% is desirable... your 15.5% hit is pretty close so it's debatable if you really have to have 16%. I have often felt a little weird to not put up my full DoTs rotation (as I used to raid as Affliction) but for SB-spamming, you really only put up the initial set of DoTs to let the tank build their threat, and after the first rotation of DoTs, you pretty much just SB-spam. Thus many people feel a little sick of the shadowmage style, cause it's pretty boring.

No Conflagration! /slaps hand
Conflag is a dps loss, try CoE>Immo>Sbolt instead, maybe even dropping immo.
And yes, crit around 20% is what you's want to start with
