Hunter problems.. Again.

My girlfriend is a Hunter, and I'm a lock. I'm 59 and she's only 56 yet she gives me a run for my money. I went with the Felguard since the patch, and it's hell to beat her now.. I can't get enough dots and her bet is vicious, she's using a white lion. Not a clue which one it is though.. I don't know what to do to still hold my lead over her, I'm pure demonology, think that's the problem? Oh well, thank you for any advice.

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

You may just be in luck coming here Kieo... I've spent the past 6 months on a Hunter while I've been waiting for transfers to open and bring my Warlock over.

The white lion is most likely Echeyakee, a summonable quest lion from The Barrens. Apart from his unique look, he is considered a "normal" cat pet as his attack speed is 2.0. The first thing we need to know in order to assist you kick some girlfriend booty (as I would expect my man to do... ironically he plays a Warlock while I'm on my Hunter still), is find out what spec your girlfriend took?

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

even tho i still have problems with hunters i can beat them finally after many many defeats hehe. A hunter is basically his pet, and especially if you're a caster class and the hunter has a "normal" pet (as akasha said with a 2.0 speed) then the hunter's technique is, sent the pet to the caster, dont let him cast even one spell and kill him while at it. If you're demonology i would suggest this series of actions:

1. Summon Voidwalker/Sacrifice for the bubble so you can cast when she sends her pet/Summon succubus
2. Fear her incoming pet and send your succubus to seduce
3. Give her a Curse Of Shadows/ send a shadowbolt and try to chain it with a new seduce as soon as it hits
4. Re-fear her pet and keep seducing/nuking/fearing her pet until she's dead

Of course trying to slip in a few dots while doing all this would just make the whole deal faster and easier for you. remember the point is to keep her pet feared/away from you, and not let her trap you.

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

I have not played a Demon spec
Currently I am full affliction spec
I always send my demon after the hunter himself to start.

If you are affliction specced, it's not so easy but the same applies...you have to fear his pet away from you. If you specced instant howl (if you didn't...your crazy ) that will work so you wont lose half your health before getting a "fear" off on the pet...unless you see the pet coming from so far away you don't need to do this. Usually in PvP, the pet is on you and you go "Oh, @#$!"
So I would Instant Howl when the pet is on you, then Fear Pet, then DoT it quickly with Curse of Agony and Corr. Turn your focus to the Hunter and (send your demon if you haven't had the chance yet ) UA, Curse of Agony, Corr, SL...then Immo and SB. Don't forget to keep fear up on the pet in between...I have not needed more than 2 fears before one of us is dead

If you are Destr Spec, (which I played forever b4 the patch) you have no choice but to try to get a Fear off immediately on the pet...as the creature keeps hitting you and your health is going down and your going "cummon, cummon..." But when you turn to the hunter you want to Immolate first, then Confl, then Immolate and then throw up your Curse of Agony and Corr...SB or by that time you can just finish him with SBurn
One thing I did not consider is Shadow Fury to stun the pet intially which is only a 1.5 sec cast and then fearing Pet....you may play with that one and poss let us know.

Despite this, I have had a HUGE problem with hunters since the patch...with silencing shot, the ability to set traps in combat and a whole host of other things I would have to say they are the New "Overpowered" class on WOW.
My son is a 60 hunter and the laughter coming from his computer room is non-stop

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

Hunters are a problem for us Warlocks because they're the melee equilivant to a warlock. Yet, we still have the power to destroy them but it does take soem time to do. If anything at all the best pet would be the succubus when it comes to engaging a Hunter. The next pet would be the Felguard.

The pet is the biggest problem, and while your taking hits from the pet your getting shot at, and theres nothing you can do about it. Except cast fear on the pet and make sure the hunter is seduced. In this time you should cast Soul Fire or immolate and once he is out of the charmed state send a death coil in and re-apply fear to me. The pet will come back and you should drop a few dots on him.

Hunters aren't a problem the other 15 people out to get you are.

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

If you're one-on-one with a hunter, it's generally not too hard to take out as an affliction warlock, depending on your gear. (as an example, you can see my gear from my profile on the left)

The biggest thing to remember is that generally their melee is nowhere near as good as their ranged attack, so get in close as fast as possible. I'm not sure of your level, but if I just want to kill a hunter quickly, I won't hold back on cooldowns. I drop curse of weakness on the pet, and siphon life. Cats are generally fast but low damage hitters, so a CoW really drops their dps down. Since they're both instant casts it only takes me a moment to cast, and I can do it while I'm running towards the hunter.

Send your pet straight at the hunter and don't stop it attacking until the fight is over.*

*Note: If you use the succubus, send her to seduce the hunter rather than attack; this will give you some time to deal with the pet, and use a normal fear. If they trinket out of the seduce, even better; they've probably just wasted the only, or one of two, protections they have against fear.

As soon as I've dropped those two dots on the pet, I deathcoil the hunter, which usually gives me time to get in close. (assuming no resist) If you have instant howl, then use it once you're in range of the hunter; I probably wouldn't recommend trying to get a normal fear off with the cat pet beating on you, as the hunter will get range on you while you're being interrupted by that cat. While they're both (hopefully) running around feared, drop either an unstable affliction (if you have it) or an immolate, and then run after the hunter, keeping in melee range.

If he resisted fear, don't worry about the UA or immo, just drop your three dots (corruption, Curse of Agony, and Siphon life) and keep running in circles around him. Most hunters kind of panic when you're in their face. Watch out if they FD as they've probably laid a trap. Make sure to circle around the spot they FD'd in rather than running over it to stay with them.

Rinse and repeat whenever your dots run out. If you are feeling confident, try a drain life or two. For example, when they're lower on health, I like to pop the AB trinket and then drain life them, or better yet pop a normal fear on them. If it takes more than 40 seconds for them to die, then pop another instant howl if you have it.

Using these tactics, I can generally kill any hunter I come up against one-on-one. Once I get two hunters on me though, it's generally goodbye warlock. However, I haven't been in that situation since the new talents, so instant howl may be a lifesaver and give me a chance to kill them. (I really hate hunters, my partner laughs every time I swear about them)

This is basically how you want to be with the Hunter:

Re: Hunter problems.. Again.

I see a lot of long stories and considering what is written I wonder in some cases if you actually ever killed a hunter...

The basic story is the hunter owns a warlock by default, simply because the pet interrupts us and his ranged dps has higher instant damage then us, so lets be very clear about that

What you CAN do is try to get as close as possible, without getting into short melee range. As afflication lock (like me) I can cast everything running towards the hunter and use howl of terror (I have 1 talent in improved) so both the hunter and the pet are feared. I completly forget about the pet (maybe siphon life), cast UA and start draining, so corruption, siphonlife, agony and UA with drain will hurt him a lot and kill him anyway.

But lets face it, if the hunter can start the fight, you are dead as warlock.
Attacking the pet will make you lose so much time, that your are dead before even getting close too the hunter, remember hunters are dependant on range and there aimed shot will take (2.5 sec?) to shoot, so if you are able to interrupt it before then (deathcoil for example) that will save you 1.2k upto over 2.5k damage and buy you more time to get to him.
