Crypt's Alliance leveling guide, Part 8! (Wetlands)

Part 8

Wetlands
Started: Level 26
Completed: Level 28
If you completed the Ashenvale part of the guide, you should have the flight path in the Wetlands and as such, you can simple catch a Griffon from Ironforge to Menethil Harbor. A couple of the quests here will be green to you, but they are quick and easy to complete and some of them lead to higher up stages.

Wetlands is what I consider to be a “filler zone”, has never really impressed me much with quest’s available, but does help fill in a level or two so you can continue in other areas. Before I head out, I ran around collecting all the quests available…

[27] The Third Fleet
Obtained from : First Mate Fitzsimmons, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Buy First Mate Fitzsimmons a Flagon of Mead
Rewards : 220 XP

First Mate Fitzsimmons is standing outside the Inn not far from the flight master. This quest really couldn’t be any easier… simple head inside the Inn and speak to Innkeeper Helbrek. Flick across to the last tab of his goods for sale and you will find a Flagon of Mead for 15s. Purchase and hand into Fitzsimmons.

[28] Report to Captain Stoutfist
Obtained from : Valstag Ironjaw, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Speak with Captain Stoutfist
Rewards : 230 XP

Just inside the main building there you will see Valstag Ironjaw, who then sends you to Captain Stoutfist, whom you will find upstairs.

[22] Claws from the Deep
Obtained from : Karl Boran, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Kill 12 Bluegill Murlocs and Slay Gobbler
Rewards : 1750 XP

[22] Young Crocolisk Skins
Obtained from : James Halloran, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Collect 4 Young Crocolisk Skins
Rewards : 1750 XP

I decided to start with these two quests as the Murlocs and the crocs are just out from Menethil Harbor. If you leave Menethil via the bridge, the Murlocs are on your left in the Bluegill Marsh. Although there are different types of Murlocs (Puddlejumper, Forager, etc), I found that the first little island part was filled with plain old Murlocs and I finished my kill count really quickly.

I was also fortunate enough to have Gobbler wander past, but you may need to hunt him out. A large blueish Murloc, he wanders all over the Marsh…

For the Young Crocolisk Skin quest, you should be able to pick it up if you completed Einar Stonegrip’s quest on your run through Wetlands to Ashenvale. For this you need to kill Young Wetlands Crocolisks until you get the 4 skins. You can either cross over the path to the Black Channel Marsh and try your luck there, or follow the stretch of water than runs parallel to the main path. If you hit normal “Wetlands Crocolisk’s” though, you’ve gone too far…

Note : If you are having trouble finding crocs, there are also a bunch of Young ones north-east of where Einar Stonegrip stands…

[25] Reclaiming Goods
Obtained from : Karl Boran, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Search the Crates and Barrels at the coastal Murloc camps
Rewards : 1750 XP

After you have handed in Gobblers Head, Karl gives you another task; to search through the crates and barrels at the Murloc camps. You want to head out of Menethil Harbor, head to your left once again and clear the camps closest to the water. The first camp (location 13,41) will have a lootable crate that will complete this quest (500 XP) and give you the next one.

At the second camp (location 13,38) you will find a half buried barrel that will complete this stage (500 XP) and give you the follow on, which is for the third camp (location 13.34) that has another barrel to let you complete (1000 XP) and gives you the final step – to return to Karl Boran. When you hand in the final step you get a choice of a crappy staff or crappy boots and 1500 XP! Not bad for 10 minutes running around…

[21] The Greenwarden
Obtained from : First Mate Fitzsimmons, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Find the Greenwarden
Rewards : 825 XP

With this being the only green quest remaining in my log, I decided to search out The Greenwarden. If you make your way to the first T-intersection (where Einar Stonegrip stands) and head inland in a north-easterly (more east than north) direction, you should enter “The Green Belt”.

[21] Tramping Paws
Obtained from : Rethiel the Greenwarden, The Green Belt, Wetlands
Objective : Kill 15 Mosshide Gnolls and 10 Mongrels
Rewards : 1000 XP

Although this quest will be green, the mobs are very easy to kill, and all bunched together. If you head south-east from the Greenwarden, you will enter Mosshide Fen, and here you will find camps of Mosshide Gnolls, Mongrels and other mobs. They are all around level 21 – 22 and as such should be extremely easy for you to take out. Once you have your kill count, head back to the Greenwarden to hand in.

The second step requires you to head back and kill the same Gnolls until you get 9 Crude Flints drop. The quest level is 23, but I decided I had had enough of green quests for now and moved on. Completely up to you if you want to do that step or not…

[24] Digging Through the Ooze
Obtained from : Sida, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Retrieve Sida’s Bad
Rewards : 10 Slot bag and 2400 XP

Just as the quest says, one of the oozes at Ironbeard’s
Tomb has swallowed her bag. Since we’re so close, I
made my way north-west from The Greenwarden and started killing the oozes.

It can drop of any ooze there and you can be unfortunate enough to have a really bad drop rate. Since I was a little higher than the oozes to begin with, I fought the ones inside the tomb. They are higher level which means more XP, and it’s rumoured they have a better drop rate. I ended up having to kill about 15 Oozes before it dropped…

[25] Fall of Dun Modr
Obtained from :Harlo Barnaby, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Search for Longraid near Dun Modr
Rewards : 1000 XP

Although the quests obtained after hand in will be elite, since it’s so close to the oozes, I went and handed in for an XP boost. Near Ironbeard’s Tomb is a path, this path leads into Arathi Highlands, but just before that is Dun Modr and Longbraid the Grim. Both the quests from Longraid and Motley Garmason require you to kill the elite Dark Iron Dwarves in Dun Modr, which you may find a little difficult solo. See if you can find a group if you want to complete them…

[28] War Banners
Obtained from : Captain Stoutfist, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Collect 8 Dragonmaw War Banners
Rewards : 2300 XP

On my way back to Menethil Harbour I stopped at the Angerfang Encampment. Here you will find the Dragonmaw Orcs and you can collect your 8 War Banners. Any of the Dragonmaw can drop the banners, however I had more luck with the raiders. There are plenty that you can pull solo if you’re careful, so you can stay away from the camps.

[26] Apprentice’s Duties
Obtained from : James Halloran, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Collect 6 Giant Crocolisk Skins
Rewards : 5 Stamina Cloak and 2100 XP

The last stage in the skin collecting quests, this one requires you to kill Giant Wetlands Crocolisks. I had the most luck finding these along the waters edge of Sundown Marsh. Heading back from the War Banners, I made my way west to the shore line and then killed my way south. Each crocolisk drops a skin, so you only need to find 6. Once you’re done, head back to Menethil and hand in Sida’s Bag, the War banners and these skins.

[25] In Search of the Excavation Team
Obtained from : Tarrel Rockweaver, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Travel to the Excavation Site
Rewards : 975 XP

Once you have handed in your quests and sold up, make your way to the Excavation site. To get there, simply follow the main path, and around 33,39 you should see a gap in the mountains and a small banner/sign at the base. Heading in there will enter you into the excavation site, and if you head to your left, you should see the path leading all the way up. You will find your quest givers up top.

Hand in your quest from Tarrel, but don’t worry too much about heading back straight away as it only gives 490 XP and no follow ons.

[24] Ormer’s Revenge
Obtained from : Ormer Ironbraid, Excavation Site, Wetlands
Objective : Kill 10 Mottled Raptors and 10 Mottled Screechers
Rewards : 1950 XP

To start with, you want to head out of the Excavation site, heading left as you exit. Fighting west along the base of the cliffs you will find the Raptors you need to kill. As you fight along you will find little camps of Raptors, all the way down to Menethil. Be careful fighting one too close to others as they will call for help when low on health.

[27] Ormer’s Revenge
Obtained from : Ormer Ironbraid, Excavation Site, Wetlands
Objective : Kill 10 Mottled Scytheclaws and 10 Mottled Razormaw
Rewards : 2200 XP

[28] Uncovering the Past
Obtained from : Prospector Whelgar, Excavation Site, Wetlands
Objective : Retrieve the Fragments
Rewards : Cloth Shoulders and 2300 XP

Both of these quests are done just below the quest givers in the Excavation Site. The Mottled Scytheclaws and Razormaw are the Raptors prowling around, and the Fragments are found in lootable relics. The relics spawn in different locations, and usually pop pretty quickly after someone has looted one. You are looking for the following things:
  • Loose Soil = Neru Fragment
  • Ancient Relic (Fat Vase) = Golm Fragment
  • Ancient Relic (White Stone Vault) = Ados Fragment
  • Ancient Relic (Tall Vase) = Modr Fragment
If you’re like me (and most people it seems), you will find three of these very quickly and then spend the next 20 minutes looking for the fourth. If you’re missing one, start having a look in out of the way places – behind the tree at the base of the ramp up to the quest givers, stand where Ormer is and look down to see if it’s spawned in the alcove you can’t really see from the ground level, etc.
Once you have your kill count and all your fragments, head up and hand in.

[29] Ormer’s Revenge
Obtained from : Ormer Ironbraid, Excavation Site
Objective : Kill Sarltooth
Rewards : Fire Wand and 2950 XP

The last quest in this series requires you to kill
Sarltooth. If you stand next to Ormer and look
west, you should be able to see a ledge above the excavation site, that is where you will find Sarltooth. Make your way over to that side and kill your way up, the path is fairly easy to follow. At level 29 (non elite) he isn’t that hard to take and can be pulled solo if you’re careful. Once killed, loot his tooth and hand in… that’s
the excavation area done!

[31] Nek’rosh’s Gambit
Obtained from : Captain Stoutfist, Menethil Harbour, Wetlands
Objective : Destroy the Catapults
Rewards : 1900 XP

Heading out of the Excavation site, I followed to path to my right and went back to the Angerfang Encampment. You have to fight your way up and to the left, through the Dragonmaw’s to the back, where you should be able to see two catapults.

The Catapults will have mobs around them, but if you pick your pulls carefully, you can clear one side quite easily. Once you can get close enough to the catapults to get the gold cog, right click and complete the quest. You don’t need to clear all the mobs in order to get to it.

The next step is to kill the boss mob, who is further down, but as it is elite I didn’t do it. Instead I made my way back out of Angerfang Encampment and headed to the shore to look for some cursed sailors!

Tip : You don’t have to run all the way out, you can jump down the cliffs from the Catapults to get back to the main path.

[29] The Cursed Crew
Obtained from : First Mate Fitzsimmons, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Kill Cursed Sailors and Marines
Rewards : 1750 XP

At around location 15,27 you will see two half sunken ships out in the water. The one closest to the shore will be full of Cursed Sailors while the one further out, has the Marines. First Mate Snellig is the named you are looking for, he drops his snuffbox you need to complete the quest. Snellig can spawn on either boat…

[30] Lifting the Curse

Obtained from : First Mate Fitzsimmons, Menethil Harbor, Wetlands
Objective : Get the Intrepid Strongbox Key
Rewards : 120 XP

After you hand in the previous step, you need to head back to the boats and this time, look for Captain Halyndor. I found him on the second boat, the one furthest out from the shore, but he could possibly move between the two. When you kill him, he will drop the Intrepid Strongbox Key which will open the Intrepid Strongbox located at the bottom of the second boat (that’s where I found it at least…).

Opening the box is instant (as in no opening bar going up) which comes in handy if you are being hit or possibly running out of breath. The box will also complete this step of the quest (1200 XP) and give you the follow on, to return to Glorin Steelbrow who is inside the Inn. After completing that step (1200 XP), you are sent to Stormwind and so ends our Wetlands journey.

Re: Crypt's Alliance leveling guide, Part 8! (Wetlands)

Thank you so much for all the information you give on the The Wetlands. I'm fairly new to the game and I need all the help I can get. You answered so many of the questions that I have had and the map is wonderful. Saves me a lot of running around in circles, as I am prone to do.
