Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
I have no problems with it at all - and I speak as someone who has gained my gear the "hard way". I also help with recruitment in my guild and I can tell you that gear alone isn't enough for me, I always check to see a player's experience, usually be checking achievements. Plus, the really positive aspect is I know a few players who have had to take extended breaks from the game, these are skilled players who have had other concerns in real life, now they can get up to speed a lot quicker rather than being forced through mind-numbing Naxx content. It's a game after all, and to make it complete drudgery would be pointless. I'm happy anyway, there's a whole load of gear that non-raiders won't have access to, weapons and trinkets for example. |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
Besides the benefit to alts, which is clear, one that I want to clearly call out is the benefit to the raider who is a little more casual than his/her guild. My warrior has been my main (likely about to change) but I've never been a hard-core raider. I can usually raid 1 night per week....2 night if I'm really lucky. After that, I might go a week (or sometimes two) without raiding. I had cleared Nax25, OS25 and EoE25....but my gear lagged behind other guildies who were there more often (hence more chances for drops) and had more epgp points (because they were there more often). All of that is completely normal and acceptable and as it should be. However, when the guild progressed to the next content I was undergeared....my DPS gear caught up quickly to respectable levels....but if you need nax25 gear....and your guild is raiding Uld....and your dps is lagging behind....you go less often...etc...etc. It's a vicious cycle. This change helps to break that cycle. Also, keep in mind that not every person started playing on day 1 of the expansion and was wearing sunwell gear when they did. As new people begin to play, how will they work themselves into raids....I'm not going to want their green and blue wearing butt in a raid with me! So we should tell them "Go run heroics, gear yourself up first.." While there are some people who just love 5-man content and would run it for fun all the time...other folks saw zero incentive in running heroics. So we have people who need heroics to gear up....but a lot less people with incentives to run heroics. I'll be honest that the last day I ran a heroic of my own accord (i.e. not being harassed into it) before 3.2 was the last day that I could get an upgrade from badges and got all of my reps (except Kirin Tor) max'd. I can say that I didn't see many of my guildmates running heroics either...at least not on their mains. The badge changes with 3.2 were a welcome sight to my eyes -- especially as someone with a then soon to be minted level 80 warlock. It was an opportunity for me gear up and catch up. As is, I'm thinking of making the warlock my main because I'm enjoying the playstyle...I'm sure I probably won't catch up to the top 1-2 locks in my guild for a long, long time....but I'm hoping in the next 3-4 weeks of reasonable play time, that I'll be geared enough to actually be viable in a Uld raid. As for the hardcores, I have to say that the people I've heard QQ the hardest about this haven't been the super hardcores. It has been the folks who want to be hardcore...but their guild/lives/skill is keeping them from getting all of the hard mode gear and achievements. Does my little warlock picking up the tier helm from badges really threaten the guy/gal who has the deathbringer shoulderpads? Even more, can it really bother significantly the guy/gal in a hard-core raiding guild that has the "Alone in the Darkness" achievement and has had multiple opportunities to roll on the roflcopter (Mimiron's Head). Sorry, I just don't buy that. Also, note that badges will not every give you access to BIS for every slot....shoulders, weapons, etc. I think all-in-all, it's a good change.

You mention you wont catch those 1-2 locks. I say your wrong. The way the game is now, and dumbed down, you basically can spend a few hours on forums, learn a rotation, spec, and get geared so fast, the newbie warlock isnt much behind the seasoned veteran. Blizzard has basically created a forced level playing field. |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
My solution would be to add an old Enchanting Essences trick to the badges. Ten Emblems of Heroism/Valor can be converted to one Emblem of Conquest. Add an NPC that can convert an Emblem of Conquest into 10 Emblems of Heroism/Conquest and we're set. This way people could still gear up, the old badges aren't meaningless, and people that get the EoC faster can still parade around in there gear far sooner than those who are saving up for it. They wouldn't have to change much in game, the achievements would remain, and it would be less confusing across the board. PS: Substitute 10 with whatever number makes sense, be it 5 or 3.

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
Yes, I was disappointed that Blizzard decided to eliminate EoH/EoV drops. I was expecting them to add the ability to trade-up at a 5:1 or 10:1 ratio up the chain. So if you had 50 EoH, you could buy 10 EoVs and then buy 2 EoCs. But I like the ease of getting EoCs. Even for my raiding main, it's been nice to get emblems that we couldn't get easily in Ulduar-10. I just wish that ALL of the T8.5 pieces were purchasable. (Ulduar-10 was a real pinch - you could get T8 drops, but unlike folks who ran Ulduar-25 you couldn't buy your helm/robe. And the EoVs that dropped could only be used to buy gear that was half a tier behind what you were fighting in Ulduar.) |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
Lets not forget about TOC normal and heroic. This place is better than naxx and you can farm it over and over and over on normal...Who needs naxx now, you can gear from TOC runs and buy open slots with Conquest badges and jump right in the pool of Ulduar. Can't complain though..... |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
My only issue with the new emblems is converting them from Conquest down to Heroism. Can they not let us be able to convert straight to heroism! I relcently converted 40 conquest down to heroism for a BoA peice. That was a big pain, Conquest to Valor, Valor to Heroism. |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
I've only started raiding in Wrath (toon is about 3 years old), and thus I am one of those who ultimately benefit from these changes to emblems. But I had a funny experience this weekend that helps me relate to "old-timers" about the playing field being leveled. While in Ulduar this weekend with my guild, and after wiping on Auriaya for 2 hours to finally down her and get 1 single EoC, I thought "that's all we get?" I can see how EoCs when Ulduar first came out were a hard won prize, and *should* have been worth more than EoH/EoV. Last edited by Agromenix; August 18, 2009 at 03:11 PM.. |

She also drops gear.... If your farming emblems there are easier places than ulduar. However, there is still some nice pieces to be had there. Although a heroic dropping 219s is a little annoying. |

Re: Emblem conversion in 3.2
Oh, sure, there were gear drops (no caster gear this time, if I recall correctly--I certainly didn't win any rolls). And we most definitely do not have Ulduar on farm--we're still working on progression. It's just that the experience showed me that an EoC in Ulduar takes a *lot* more to obtain than an EoC off of, say, that big blowhard Prince Keleseth in H UK. And hence I can see why opening up EoCs to basically everyone might be a bit jarring to folks who ran Ulduar when it was top end-game content.
