[Hellfire Ramparts] Vazruden & Nazan

Vazruden & Nazan
62 Elite (Normal) ~ 72 Elite (Heroic)

An armored Fel Orc, he is called Vazruden the Herald when flying around the tower of Hellfire Ramparts wing of the Hellfire Citadel instance in Hellfire Peninsula on his Nether Drake, Nazan.
Type?
??,??? Health, ??,??? Mana
Nazans Abilities:
Fireballs - Deals around 800 to 1100 fire damage and leaves a liquid fire after the impact on the ground that tics for 380 - 1000 fire damage.
Liquid Flame - When the Fireball hits the ground, the ground burns, dealing immense amounts of fire damage to anyone caught in the flames
Cone of Fire - Spits a cone of fire that damage the targets infront of Nazan for around 1500 fire damage.
Vazrudens Abilities:
Revenge - Inflicts 360 to 440 shadow damage to party members within 15 yards every second.

Tactics:
The third and final fight for the instance, Vazruden and Nazan have proven to be the most difficult for most learning groups. You will notice Vazruden, along with his mount Nazan flying around just above the final ledge of the instance. On the ledge he is flying above stand two guards, once both of these are dispatched, Vazruden will land and phase one of the fight begins.

Vazruden isn’t very tough but can pack a punch so your group will want to bring him down fairly fast. While fighting Vazruden, Nazan above will be spitting down AoE fire balls that become a DoT when they land. You can not miss when these things land, and you will want to move away from them very quickly so as not to take too much damage. If you have ever taken part in the Magmadar fight in Molten Core, you will be used to this strategy. Although the fire ball will pick the first person randomly, once the Priest’s heals anyone affected, they will immediately become the sole target for the fire bombs unless Nazan himself is attacked. The occasional Hunter’s Arrow or Shadowbolt from us will help keep the healer alive.

When Vazruden is close to death, Nazan will land on the same platform and generally heading straight for your healer so make sure they are aware of this and use either Fade and/or Power Word Shield to protect themselves. The last thing you need at this point is your primary healer doing down. When choosing your tank for this phase, consider that a Rogue with 300 FR will take less damage from Nazan than a Paladin with 100 FR will. Tank that lack FR should have a Greater Fire Protection Potion (even a Fire Protection Potion) to take when Nazan lands. Fire resist buffs, shaman totem, fire ward etc. is a good idea for this part.

Having your tank turn Nazan away from the rest of the group is generally unfeasible when the opponent has an AoE fire attack, which then becomes a 500 per 2 seconds DoT, so the tank will be constantly moving away from them. If you're in front of Nazan and you're not the tank, move immediately. It is best to fight in the big ring, where an experienced tank may be able to move Nazan in a way that allows raid members to avoid the flames. Ask if your tank thinks they can do this beforehand.

The best method for tanks do to this is to try to place Nazan in the middle of the ring and slowly rotate him around as his DoTs are placed down. This is for several reasons: First, it allows the tank to move out of the fire DoTs. Second, it allows some control over where the DoT will be placed. This allows the group and the tank to have good positional awareness of where the DoTs are and can avoid them easily. Third, it allows the rest of the party to easily move behind Nazan since they will have a fairly good understanding of which way he will be facing. A way that I have tried is simply tanking Nazan facing the path that you come down to reach the boss, and keeping the rest of the group in the circle area. Just make sure to move off his fireballs occasionally, you shouldn't need to turn the boss too much.

Our Role:
During the first phase of the fight your attention will primarily be on Vanruzen. A Curse of Weakness can aid in lowering the amount of damage he hits for, however if he is dropping fast there wouldn’t be too much concern. If you are Affliction spec and receive the occasional Nightfall proc, think about using that free instance Shadowbolt on Nazan when he is flying around. As mentioned above, the Priest can become his target of choice unless attacked and a couple of Shadowbolts might just keep them alive.

When Nazan lands, you want to continue your focus on Vanruzen as he will be almost dead. There is little you can do to distract Nazan when he lands, that job will be up to the tank to taunt him away from the Priest, because of this his attention will be momentarily distracted from Vanruzen so finish him off if you can. Once done with Vanruzen, turn your attention to his mount and start dotting up. Hopefully your tank will have turned Nazan away from your group so you shouldn’t have to worry about the Fire cone here.

Because of the AoE damage happening through out the fight, you will most likely find you loose your pet fairly quickly. While an Imp is a good choice for the first phase, Nazan is immune to all fire damage, which makes him fairly useless. If you’re Demonology specced, this fight would be the one to make use of Demonic Sacrifice. If you’re Affliction and have Dark Pact, park a pet away from the main fight and use it to draw mana from… and you will need it for this battle.

Like Omor, there is little you can do in this fight outside of bringing in some serious DPS and watching Nazan while flying. There is nothing to seduce, nothing to enslave, just good old DoTing and nuking!

Kill Movies:

Loot:
The bosses leave empty corpses, with just quest loot. A chest spawns to the side and the two pieces of loot from this encounter are in there. Make sure you don't leave the dungeon just because you don't see any corpses and think you got ripped off. The usual strategy putting Nazan in the center of the ring and rotating him as he breathes often has him dying over the chest, hiding it from view. To see all drops, please click here.

Re: [Hellfire Ramparts] Vazruden & Nazan

You can DoT Nazan while he's in the air. It doesn't make or break the fight, since the hard part is the transition when he lands, but it's still worth hitting a trinket and spreading your DoTs over both of them at the start.

I disagree with the statement that you'll lose your pet quickly. I've used my Felguard in heroic Ramparts without much issue at all. -15% damage from Demonic Resilience and 50% to avoid AoE from Avoidance means as long as your tank doesn't tank right next to a fire blob you should be fine. Nazan's hit box is absolutely enormous, so finding an open spot for your Felguard to DPS from isn't a problem. I think the first time we did it I had to Fel Domination a new one out, but after I asked our tank to move a little bit farther from the fires it stopped being a problem.

There are certainly risks for your pet, but it's not a death sentence to a Felguard.

Yes on normal have done quite well by dotting/nuking (with other players) the dragon down to about 55% then go full out on the orc till hes dead.

The hardest part is when the dragon lands so if this is shorter then you are in for a smoother ride.

Heroic have only done once and then we just uber nuked the orc until dead, then all on the Dragon MT at front and everybody else behind him to avoid breath. Oh and watch for the fire spot unless you like dying a lot. Kept an Imp out (Destr spec) and fireshield on group (I guess every little helps) if your lucky the imp will survive the fight (might need to health Funnel once or twice maybe).

Ah yes - just a tweak - the trouser loot are healer trousers...(Unless you gem them i suppose)

Re: [Hellfire Ramparts] Vazruden & Nazan

As an afflock, my old phase shifted mana battery imp buffing everyone with fire sheild sounds very useful to me. Pet DPS? You won't need to park the imp up, just put him on passive wth firesheild on autocast and use him as a battery. AoE won't hurt him if he's out of phase, but he can firesheild and be lifetapped while in that state. I don't know if you'll need to fire sheild manually against fire effects, I know autocast works when a party member gets melee'd.

Otherwise, very nice, I'l remember to re read it when we try heroics.

It's a good idea to let your tank nearly solo the 2nd of the guards. This way he will have a full bar of rage to lay into nazan as soon as he lands. Similarly, lay off dps at about 50% and let the tank get a full bar of rage for when the dragon lands, then let the tank switch all threat to the dragon while dps bursts down nazan quick. By the time they get to teh dragon the tank will have built ample threat.

And so will the healer... a risky but quite possibly great idea. It's not like the tank loses control on this instance anyway so hopefully all that time he's building up a HUGE margin on the healer.

Re: [Hellfire Ramparts] Vazruden & Nazan

In my time doing non heroic ramparts i found that by keeping full dots on Nazan before he lands he will usually be focused on me when he lands. I found this to be preferable because i could take hits a little easier than the healers in my groups and if the healer gets breathed on as soon as the dragon comes its pretty much game over
