Re: Improved Howl of Terror
In my opinion iHoT is commonly overestimated for PvP, though it might be more useful in Arena than BG or world PvP. As with Fear, due to Will of the Forsaken it's much less useful for Alliance than for Horde. The 40 seconds CD is a lot longer than an Affliction Warlock can expect to survive against a burst damage class, so you *very* rarely get to use it twice in the same fight. For Alliance, it's an instant that encourages opponent to use one of their Fear defense abilities. If they do that at all, it will be applied quickly, so you don't get the time to cast a channeled spell without risking a potentially dangerous counter (Kick etc) or an interrupt which completely negates the value of the iHoT (Gouge etc). It stll doesn't mean your next Fear will run for 5 seconds, because iHoT rarely forces your opponent to use their last defense (typicaly trinket). As Alliance it rarely affects the result of a fight - classes that are actually affected are those which aren't really concerned about Fear/Terror (like healbot Druids). In the Fearproof post-302 world it's even less effective. As Horde, there's a much better chance it will pull your opponent's *last* Fear/Terror defense, but even so it's unlikely to have any effect on the fight more often than not. Pre-302 I've always seen it like UA - as a spell which can be used on Druids, but whose effect is, at best, to force them into speedcat and make them run.away (drawn fight). With 302+ Druids have been Fearproofed too, so iHoT (like UA) has probably become another spell that looks good but has no effect on the outcome of a fight. And if you're inevitably going to lose a fight, who cares if it sometimes lasts 8 seconds more? Last edited by Amanita; October 21, 2008 at 10:22 PM.. |

Re: Improved Howl of Terror
I'm on the fence about putting 2 points here. iHoT can create a lot of short-term havoc in closely packed spots of a battleground. It at least interrupts spell casting and forces everyone to reposition. It's useful during situational fights like Shade of Aran (keeping the elemental mobs busy). I don't think it's our worst 2 points to be spent in Affliction, but I am tempted not to spend points there. Or maybe just spend a single point so that it's a quicker cast. |
