frustration

So after transferring from a near dead server about 2 weeks ago, the friends I transferred with and I joined a newly formed raiding guild.

Ran Kara three times last weekend, fairly decent runs, though frustrating as I lost out on two epics to a mage who then disappeared and hasn't resurfaced since.

Last night we were scheduled to raid, and our GM didn't show up online until 3 hours after we were supposed to go, saying his internet had been down.

Tonight, we were again scheduled to go, and 4 people who had said they'd be on didn't show. The GM was fairly annoyed at this, and is now introducing DKP.

I can't help but be extremely frustrated, there's finally opportunity to start progressing again and now all these little things pop up. I'm almost tempted to leave the guild and join a larger, more organized one.

Such are things on this game, I suppose -_-

Re: frustration

Sorry to hear about the problems. Sometimes bad luck just happens all at once. If it keeps up for an extended period of time (several weeks) then I'd move somewhere else. But if you liked the guild while you were playing with them, give it some more time. You might really enjoy it.

Re: frustration

I feel your frustration. My guild after a couple of half hearted attempts at progressing though Kara, finally got a solid team together.

In one week, we killed the bosses up to and including Illhoof and Aran, on server reset we had a pretty high hopes of completing Kara. Then the problems started, people would roll on loot that was a very small upgrade to them over people who really needed the loot, hence the team doesn't get stronger. The GM insisted that other guild members were beamed into the instance for certain boss kills so they could get the loot.

So as the events unfold on server reset: -
1. Wednesday night, all bosses killed upto Aran
2. Wednesday night people are beamed into kara for boss kills
3. Wednesday night people start rolling for themselves instead of whats best for the team
4. Thursday night - Only half of team log on
5. Friday night - Only half of team log on

What should have been a week for real progression instead nearly kills a solid kara group. I know most guild don't use DKP for Kara, but unless my guild starts using it, I can see no further progression. Who really wants to kill trash up to a boss and then replaced so some guild member who has put no effort into the team gets the boss loot.

Ya, I feel your frustration.

Re: frustration

The only time to spare a dkp system is when you only (!) raid with friends/known people.
I know it's quite annoying, but the dkp system really helps to avoid all the problems you (both) mentioned.
I don't like it either, but there are too many greedy, egoistically dumbheads out there when it comes to epics.

Re: frustration

Just curious, but why would you not use DKP for any organized raid. It seems the only fair thing to do in places where you want to ensure effort and time is rewarded and I cant see any benefit in not using it.

Actually, I am down to 2 bosses that I actually want items off of. I have still yet to get my pendant, so I would love to work on trash and let someone else in so they can upgrade on bosses that I do not need...

Re: frustration

My guild has a master looter, and we all discuss how we want the loot to go as a group. In the end, it's Ben's say, and he is the raid leader for this kara group, but he usually asks what everyone thinks, whether they want to /roll on it, pass for now to pick something else up, etc. We haven't had much issue with it (except for this one shadow priest who wanted to roll on the int and mana regen trinket off of Aran *with* the healers, until waiting until *after* the healers who want it have it), because in general we're all mature enough folks who know that if we keep coming to raids we'll keep getting loot.

Plus, we have a lot of ex-raiders who've done a lot of the pre-BC stuff, and loathe DKP. So they're not too fired up about implementing it.

Re: frustration

We master loot in Kara and do officer loot in 25 mans. The people in my guild are good about seeing who really needs what to get stronger and most of the time are willing to pass on something if it benefits another person more. We've now gotten to the point where some people have pretty much all they need out of kara and there is no point in going. Others still need gear so the GM is substituting people so they can get gear.

We were using master loot for Kara - it worked fine the couple of times we did run.

Thanks for the replies though, it's good to hear about other experiences =)

Re: frustration

DKP is all too uncommon in guilds especially larger ones. Most guilds though however tend to introduce DKP after Karazhan because Karazhan is a raid that can (and is) pugged nowadays so there's not such a rush-rush situation to getting geared up unless you're totally new to end-game.
