Account Got Hacked... and the Results (pictures)

So, me and a few friends were roaming around Winterspring when all of a sudden... my friend logs off his account. When he tries to log back in... he gets a message saying that his account name doesn't match his password.

My other friend and I start to make fun of him a little because we realized his account got hacked... Bad karma for me

We watched as his character hearthed, and later logged off.

Soon after... I get disconnected and BOOM, the same thing happens to me. Account name and password don't match. I start to freak out.

My other friend was starting to get really nervous at that point, so he quickly changed his password, but nothing happened to him.

My friend and I were trying to figure out why our accounts got hacked and not my other friend. I then remembered, that earlier, I had gone to a "Wrath of the Lich King Beta" sign up page. I had entered my account info on the first page and half way through filling out the personal info, I stopped myself thinking, "HA! I'm not falling for that scam!"... I was tired (3:00 in the morning), and didn't realize that I already had given them my information...

My unhacked friend was sitting on an alt and telling us what our characters were doing... Mine was taking a visit to Stormwind (emptying out my bank) and then flew to Westfall (moving my character to an annoying location).

My character was then logged off of, and my hacked friend's account was logged back on to.

I quickly 'ran' to the WoW website and requested a new password.

I wanted to talk with this fella though... so I logged on my friend's druid (yeah I know lots of friends I'm popular ).

This is what was said:












Moral of the story... Don't type your password in anything except worldofwarcraft.com... and that apparently hackers like to get your character drunk

I am currently trying to get my character restored... wish me luck.

Wow is all i can say, a good read though into the mind of a butt monkey who gets off on that i guess.. question though , did you get your account back yet, and what about your gear? I suppose that goes the same for your friends, i am suprised how calm you were during all of that, kudos i spose :D

What type of pathetic person does it take to not only do something like that and then be so bold as to talk to you about what hes done with all the stuff :S

The arrogance of that guy. I'm a pretty placid person but that really gets the urge to Do Violence going. I commend your composure during that convo.

I'm glad you realised you were to blame in signing up for the fake site, but really if there weren't @ssholes making these hacksites in the first place then we'd all be safe. Sadly it will always happen though.

I hope as much as possible gets restored and that you are more careful in the future.

Yeah, both my friend and I have our accounts back with new passwords. Our gear wasn't so lucky

Best of luck getting it back man, always pisses me off when I see people doing these kinds of things. Hats off to him for creativity, but there are other things I'd rather be doing with my time.

This is.. amazing some people can make themself do it..
Few months ago a good friend of mine opened a ticket and GM replied him. GM also told him if he could get his msn, cause this seemed to be a problem around the matter he had asked. So if my friend could be kind to close his wow after and install this program. Then he would have no further troubles.
My friend is a kid on 14. The most polite and greatful teenager i ever met. Naiv.. yes.. But as good as the day is long. He log out, install. And ofc he cant log in again.
Hacked.
But he got all his items restored. Even the amount of gold to as close as possible. All bank items. Everything. But those 14 days till it all was back.. It was horrible.
He really worked hard to get his mage to 70. And then this happens. Poor kid..

I hope you will get all your items, mounts and at least most of your gold back.
I know it can be done. So keep nagging those blizz boyz for it.

As I once heard it said, "The deepest pit of hell is reserved for murderers and mutineers." I consider account hackers to be mutineers...I had a friend get his account hacked a couple of months ago. Took 2 weeks and got his stuff back. Lucky for us he didn't try to hit the guild bank or go after his other characters.

Hackers should be strung up by their thumbs and beaten with sticks....and then the real torture should begin. Grrr...I feel for ya.

I feel much relieved after hearing that

I had an auto-response from Blizzard saying that they'll look into my account, so I'll wait and see.
