Downloading all day...

Hey all.

I came in to work today and wanted to mess around with the WoW model viewer. When I tried to run it, I got an error. DOH, I found myself thinking, I forgot to install WoW on my laptop (I had just formated it) and the model viewer requires WoW to run. Since I'm at work I didn't have access to the disks, so I decided to log into my account at worldofwarcraft.com and download the exe for the game. I figure with the high speed internet we have at work, it would only take an hour or so... 6 hours later its finally finished downloading and is now installing. Then of course there is the Burning Crusades i'll need to put on it and then patches... Since I leave work in 30 mins, I doubt I'll get to do what I wanted to do after all. lol

I'll be installing from the disks when i get home in 2 hours. Just felt like ranting a bit.

cheers!

You may have high speed internet at work but if your laptop connects via a wireless connection instead of a hard line you are getting around 11 Mbps instead of 100 Mbps. Just a thought.

Yep, but I got myself a hard line ;)

Not really sure why it was taking so long, I seriously doubt it was anything on our end. Oh well, what's done is done.

Re: Downloading all day...

Hah sounds like me the other day. I recently bought a new computer and since I don't have the original WoW disks anymore I thought I would download it. It was so slow and I was so impatient I decided to just go out and buy the disks.

I was also too impatient to stop and look for my BC disks too so I bought a set that is both games on DVD. So much faster to install when you don't have to switch disks!

While I was installing the game my boyfriend managed to break our wireless router meaning that I wouldn't be able to play the game until it was fixed. Luckily he realized that his life was in jeopardy and ran right out and got a new one.

Now I'm playing on my massive upgrade of a computer and staring at the sky and the water everywhere I go heh. I went from about 12 fps with minimum graphics to 60 or so with everything cranked. I'm deliriously happy and it's like a whole new game. (Sorry, went off on a tangent but I'm still excited)

I currently play on an old iBook G4, with the settings mostly set to minimum. Shatt is a foggy depressing place that sometimes drops to .4 FPS.

I can't raid and sometimes when AV gets crowded it's impossible to play. One time, a Fel Reaver materialized out of the fog and killed me.

I've seen footage of the game running at full, and it does look like a whole new game. Can't wait to upgrade myself.

Anyways, to be on topic, I'm glad I didn't try to download the game myself. I considered it once when I couldn't find my disks.

I have the multi CD-Rom version of the game. However, if any of you didn't know, you can easily burn your own DVD version simply by copying the files off of every CD into a folder on your computer and then burning those files to a DVD. You might get some requests to overwrite files when you copy them, thats OK as those are just the auto launch and setup files and are the same on every disk.

Your right in that it is a lot faster when you don't need to keep looking to see if you gotta swap out disks.
