Another BAW thread: What are you reading?

We are certainly a literate bunch here at the Den, and I wonder if there are many other readers on this board? So, what are you reading right now? What are some of your favorite books, authors and/or genres? Or, have you stopped reading since you started playing WoW?

I'm currently reading a book called A Sudden Country by Karen Fisher. It's a novel about people traveling west on the Oregon trail back in the day. Very atmospheric and interesting from a historical point of view, with a love story thrown in for good measure.

I'm in a reading group with several of my women friends - we meet once a month to chat, eat dessert, drink wine, and talk about books. So I usually read one book for reading group and one other book each month.

Some books I've read recently that I really liked: Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey; The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield; The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd; The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, The History of Love by Nicole Kraus.

But enough about me: what about all of you?

I haven't really been reading much lately. The last book I read was the newest Star Wars book. I can't remember what it is called though.

I have to say my favorites are probably Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potter series, and any books my Michael Crichton.

Re: Another BAW thread: What are you reading?

Geez, I don't even remember the last thing I read. Actually wait, yes I do lol - it was a parenting book haha. With such little time, I don't really read any more - if I have any spare time it's spend doing 100 other things.

I've always enjoyed the crime/mystery books though. Tami Hoag and Dean Kootz are probably my favourite authors.

Stephen King is a perennial favourite, as is Michael Moor****. Looking at the books immediately scattered around the PC I have:

A collection of poetry by Blake.
The Swords of Corum by Michael Moor****
Michael Scott Rohan's "Anvil of Ice" trilogy
"Sniper" by Mark Spicer
Couple of collections of HP Lovecraft.

To show the level of junkie I am... I'm reading The Sundering (book three in the War of the Ancients trilogy). I have some stuff by Jim Butcher in queue though.

Re: Another BAW thread: What are you reading?

Hmmm, last several books I've read...
John Adams by David McCullough, very interesting read on a very underappreciated president/founding father
Pearl Harbor & Days of Infamy by Newt Gingrich and William Fortchen, didn't much care for Newt's politics, but he's a heck of a writer; and I love alternate histories

Right now I'm reading Uncle John's Ahhh Inspiring Bathroom Reader, lol. Lot's of interesting and funny trivia.

Re: Another BAW thread: What are you reading?

I'm an avid reader. I love to pretty much read anything and everything that looks remotely interesting to me. I read non-fiction, fiction, fantasy, suspense, horror ...

I am currently reading The Wheel of Darkness by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, a Pendergast novel for any who know that character. Its a thriller for the most part, great series, highly recommend it.

I am also reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. Its a humorous book on ... well, the "lives" of cadavers. What happens to the bodies of those who donate them. Quite an interesting and funny read... very educational too.
