*cry*

I've been working on a guide for over a MONTH now... and somehow, I honestly don't know how, I've lost half of it. I put the finishing touches of most of it on last night, just needed to do one final part tonight and it was complete. Ready to post.

But I've opened it up tonight and it's only about 1/3 of the guide...

I've had it saved in two locations (main PC and shared network to access it from the laptop) and both versions are the same - the half complete guide.

I'm so sad right now...

Re: *cry*

We're looking, but not really. It was only saved in two locations.

The thing I don't get, is I was working on it last night, for like 5 hours. I saved it multiple times with in that time frame.... so how can I be looking at a two week old version?

That is really odd - PC gremlins do strike me occassionally and I generally have no idea whats happening so I just poke and prod things - or in extremis call up a friend of mine and pick his brain.

Hope you manage to find it!

Re: *cry*

What is the file format? Microsoft Word (not all Versions) files have some history of edits and sometimes you end up with undoing work of days. But Word also saves temporary files (beginning with ~) that sometimes help to recover data.

I suggest a full HD scan for the file. May be it's really just a different folder. I recall saving into my wife's document folder because I had changed one of here docs and were not able to find my document for days...

Re: *cry*

It's a FrontPage Document. We've done a full system search, and used some other 'recover' program... nada. As much as I don't want to think about it, I think it's gone. This will now bug me for the rest of my life as I just don't understand how it happened.

Re: *cry*

When you say you have done a full system search, is that by filename?

Sometimes you may find something if you can remember a relatively unique text string you may have used in the missing parts and TEXT search you whole system (including hidden files) for that string in any file?

Other than that .... /hug

Re: *cry*

Check the recycle bin, maybe run an undelete program, it's possible it was accidentally deleted. Most of my clients somehow hit the delete button without even knowing they've done it and I have to come around and save their data.
