Hunters, mages, Death Knights, etc are just crazy damage atm. In my last raid (before quitting due to locks being such an easy HK in PvP) our hunters were hitting 10K dps on aoe pulls and shredding the meters on boss fights.
Hunters have a natural edge but a good warlock can find ways to compete. I have been fending off skilled, well-geared hunters on the charts this entire expansion. Don't always win but more often than not I can edge them out.

I will say, though... something is very, very wrong if you are complaining about hunters beating you at AoE. Hunters are certainly no slouch at it these days but SoC is still king.

Re: The glory days of locks...

There's no doubt about it, Hunter AOE is overpowered but then Blizzard know that and it is getting nerfed by 30% in the next patch (3.0.8). Personally, I think Mage AOE should be top followed by Warlocks but we'll see.

Just on the wider DPS issue, what do you think each class should be pulling on average? On boss fights I'm regularly in the top 3 or 4. My Patchwerk DPS varies from 3.8k at the low end to 4.2k and I'm wearing three blue items and only have the 2pc T7 bonus. I can't believe that DPS in the 4k range should only put me "in the middle" of the DPS charts (keep in mind we are a new guild and aren't yet farming Naxx, most of us have very few iLevel 213 items).

Things are harder now and my rotation is pretty complex with me always watching the cooldown and dot timers but I actually feel like I'm using my brain a little bit. And things will get better with the changes to Backdraft, Chaos Bolt, and the Glyphs of Conflagrate and Agony. Maybe I need to progress a bit more to see how warlocks scale with gear but I'm fairly happy with what I contribute to raids right now.

Our main problem, which is a joke atm is PvP vs. melee mostly. We're just dead, kaboom...bottom of the foodchain. The problem isn't entirely our class, but a lot of overpowered classes as well. Blizz can so easily fix this, wo making is overpowered, but I guess fixing drain mana and making summon uber is more important.

Thats what im saying. Im a desctruction lock all the way with a few points in demonology. What I absolutly hate atm is if a pally or dk catches me unaware it takes em 2 3 shots to kill me. Even with 2k armour i mean wtf is up with that. Although i must say i dont see why everyone wants to top dps charts. I work on burst damage, not sustained dps but that might be because im more into pvp than raids etc etc high crit rating ftw. I must say if i can keep something still long enough i can chew through hp quite quickly. But being one shotted by some classes just gets my wound up. Blizz seriously needs to do something about the way our armour works or how much damage we take. I know some mages that are even bitching about this.

For a lot of people it really is. If you have a guild that is nice and casual and doesn't care what your DPS is, then that's pretty awesome. But like achievements, people are always trying to one up each other. DPS is just one of the many things WoW gives players a challenge. It might sound silly from someone who isn't used to it, but it's just more incentive for certain playstyles. Some people want certain gear to put them higher up, while others simply like the look.

I take pride in sustaining the damage...keeping DoTs up and stuff, that was really cool. Warlocks are KING of Total Damage!

Are our classes still so unbalanced? I never really thought of, let alone heard of the highest potential dps class. Any info one can give me of today's current highest dps class would be greatly appreciated.
