Fianlly Ulduar, found to be unworthy!

Last night I was asked to go on a run to Ulduar with my Guild leader and our sister guild. I was not fully geared to be there but they knew that and asked me to come anyway. I accepted and wow it was a very neat experience. I got to see some content that I dare say was still a month away at the pace I am gearing. They told me not to worry and just sit back and take it in. After a few engagements I quickly learned that I was just along for the ride and was no help to the raid. My DPS was around 2k depending on how long I manged to live. So I decided to take the advice given and take it in.

But after the raid wiped twice I asked them to replace me and get someone with some DPS. But wow this experience has put a fire under me to get geared and to do it fast. I got to see the application of the lessons learned here at the Den first hand. I am stoked now.

I think it was very nice of them to take you along. My guild let me come as someone couldn't make it. Only saw the first boss but it was alot of fun! Then was taken again to fill in and did a few more, went on for a few weeks and saw alot, and got bits of gear. I then started to run Naxx25 for a few weeks and got some gear from that as well. Now i am raiding 3 times a week in the guild runs and am one of the top DPS'ers in the raid. I was doing about 3k to start with at a push, now i can do between 4 and 5k fairly easily.

That's why it's so much better with a decent guild.

Yeah I agree.

We do the same on a few occasions with community members who may eventually want to raid but are not part of the raid team. We may mix it up in a 10man Ulduar or Naxx25 because after all, some people do need gear and you never know, some people get the 'bug' to raid after that. Just because someone isn't hard core doesn't mean they aren't a competent player who can learn the fights, but it is nice to be able to do something like this especially if, who knows, it leads to something more down the road.

Also it helps for switching mains. I joined my guild because they wanted a lock. But my main for Wrath of the Lich King and before was really a prot pally that was very geared. My lock was barely Naxx10 geared. The invite came at a good time a few months ago when Naxx25, 6min Maly, 3D sarth was on farm and Ulduar coming out in a couple weeks. A single Naxx25 run netted me a lot of gear and got me reasonably there. Today, having been a very consistent raider, my gear lets me do all the progression hardmodes which I consider an amazingly short time compared to if I had pugged to get all my gear. It just would not have been efficient and I would have been left behind very quickly.

In comparison, later, when Ulduar started so all our raid nights were devoted to Ulduar, I tended to pug Naxx25 to fill out my gear on offnights, and most pugs if you are lucky take 4 hours to clear naxx25 due to the nature of AFKs in pugs. If unlucky with wipes etc, Naxx25 (and NAxx10s) is a 6 hour ordeal which is more like work. In a guild that really has it on farm, Naxx25 shoudlnt take more than 2 and a half hours even carrying a few people. And of course, forget doing 2D or 3D sarth as a pug for the pennant cloak.
