I would say not to judge people purely based upon their gear, as everyone's situation is somewhat different. If someone knows how to play their class, everything else can be taught.
I don't care what you're wearing, HOWEVER if you're looking for new boots and have the gold to drop, there are some nice craftable ones that come from an Ulduar pattern.

I have used the guide from Falcrist but have not been able to find any good boots on the AH.

The spellslinger boots cost a chunk of mats to make, so it's rarely worth any crafter's time to make the boots and attempt to AH them. It is better for a crafter to just get a tip for their time and ability to the recipe.

If you want the spellslinger boot's you need to buy the 6 runed orbs from the AH plus 10 spellweave and 10 ebonweave and then ask trade chat if someone can make these boots for you.

People like me usually respond pretty quickly if we're available. I usually get about 50g tip to make the ancient sash of power (same recipe) and 30g to make the boots on my server.

PS Maybe it's cuz I am a bit tired today, but when I saw the subject heading of this thread, I thought it meant "Why do people take Ventrilo so seriously (ie "it" referring to "Vent")". LOL

lol @ vent.

Yeah, the boots are definitely pricy, but if you're the farming type (which, assuming that you're not the raiding/pvp type, you probably are a farmer), then the mats aren't too too steep.

I actually think that wearing some greens to a heroic is fine. Having said that, I do believe that people should make a significant effort to gear themselves in heroics and with crafteds before saying that they're ready to do Naxx10/25.

Do a round of daillies, get a few 100g -- and offer over trade chat to pay somewhere between 10 and 15g for someone to do the enchant with your mats if you're having trouble getting them. That makes it worth doing a daily for them and might get more interest.

As an aside, you don't have to (and probably shouldn't) do best-in-slot enchants on blues or even some heroic epics.....especially chest and weapons. Get the mats for a good enchant from vanilla or BC that will cost you less. Then you can save up for the bigger enchants on items that you know you won't likely upgrade for a long time.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest that I judge people based on their gear. I actually think that WOW in general, can be taught easily. The hardest two things in the game to learn are actually movement and situational awareness (e.g. you're standing in fire, move now). I do find that I must adjust my expectations if noone in a heroic group knows the fights and the healer and tank are all in greens. I also find it frustrating in a raid situation if another raid member has none of their gear enchanted and/or they're not buffed by appropriate consumables. Again, I don't think they're bad people because of it.....but it does bug me. When I look at the dps they've done and I can quickly make a calculation that getting reasonable enchants (not BIS, just reasonable) and having proper consumables would have added 150-200dps to their average...which would have helped with this enrage timer that we just hit...yeah, it does bug me. I don't call them names, I don't harass them...and I accept that they are likely perfectly wonderful people. It still bugs me...and I reserve the right to be bothered by it....even if the only place I mention it, is here.

Re: Vent: Why do people take it SO seriously?

Gear is one thing, learning to play is another thing. I may have decent gear, but i honestly think with better raiding experience i could push even better numbers out. I'm doing the most in the guild runs in Ulduar at the moment, pushing around 5k, but i've only been playing since xmas, and dinged 80 about 3 months ago. No prior raiding experience. I jumped into Ulduar pretty fast. But i was kinda boosted by my guild a little. I still have alot to learn.
