Vent: Soul Shards and Other Locks

Ok I may be very alone on this, but I was doing 10-man Naxx yesterday because I'm suffering from repetition bordem. So I went into a PuG 10-man and was there for a good 4 hours with a lot of fail and of course a lot of replacements, but I stayed the whole time and for some reason I'm gonna go back tomorrow and try to finish what we started.

ANYWAY after a considerable amount of wipes we picked up another Warlock and I had been supplying HS's and Summons and was running low on shards and was going to let him do healthstones and summon after the raid leader called for it. Then he called for it again. Then a third time and I'm like wtf. So I drop the stones and let it go. But this happened three more times.

So I finally say wtf we have 2 locks and you can't drop HS's? His response. He hasn't trained in it yet. I checked his gear and he had some badge gear from my brief scan and boy I was pissed by that comment. I don't mind being the sole provider if I'm the only warlock, but when there are more I like to share because I try to max my DPS and conserve shards b/c drain soul is off the beaten path of my rotation.

I dunno maybe it's me and I'm too conservative with my soul shards or what. I just thought that was a BS response and was really irritated with him. He was pretty much fail anyway so I guess it was to be expected.

sorry had to get that off my chest.

I'm sorry but isn't the aspect of a soulwell and a demon closet rather vital to being a lock? I am not If I were you I woulda said here is 12 g go back to sw and learn it and I'll summon you when you are done... or you can just leave.

I equate it to a balance druid who doesn't spec into imp faerie fire... It both irritates me and I'm boggled by it.

Any 'lock worth a **** should have all of his spells and understand how to play his class. Obviously this guy was a complete tool and should have been /raid kicked. I would have left the raid if they kept this other 'lock. You see, it is people like that who give us a bad name.

I'm not sure how that Warlock expects to ever get PUGs. I advertise that I bring health candy, summons, and even fish feast.

If I just didn't do healthstones, soulstones, summons when needed I would expect to get kicked out of that raid or group. These things aren't even talents that you might not have, this is baseline stuff.

That's what trash is for! It all dies so fast you may as well restock on soul shards every other trash pull.

I do agree with your annoyance at the other Warlock. I've been to instances with other locks where they haven't even brought soul shards with them!

I'm so used to being the only lock in (guild) raids that I just automatically pop a summon whenever it's needed. I don't really bother with HS unless it's REALLY required on a boss i.e Malygos' tornado attack or Loatheb, I alternate my SS with our shammys ankh so we know that we've nearly always got wipe protection.

I think that I am one of the few warlocks that pugs on my server that has improved healthstone talents (slight modification of 0/13/58 spec) and personally I don't mind being the one to always put down healthstones and summon portals.

The other reason for this is I use ForteXorcist which helps announce to people to click for this stuff as well. Whereas whenever another lock typically does this, the healthstone thing gets summoned silently and sometimes people forget to get their "lock rock" otherwise.

So I guess the OCD part of me prefers if I do it just cuz I know the healthstones will be better and people will be notified of them. But with that said, obviously your fellow lock is kind of 'slow'. How was his or her DPS? Were they otherwise pulling their weight? Im guessing not if usually lack of training in one area usually means lack of understanding in others as well.

It's also possible you got grouped with an EBay'ed toon or a toon being played by a friend who lent their toon out. They might have the soulwell spell but just don't know how to use it.

Crono - i'm sorry but This made me actually chuckle out loud - whilst in the office - I hate to disagree but seems to me there was only one lock in your PuG and one cheeky SoB ;o) I know its annoying but really sit back on your laurels with a superior smirk on your face - in this case youve every right ;o)

Wow. Personally I think the only spell you don't "have" to train as a lock is hellfire...

In your spot I would have politely told the other lock that he was a %$*ing moron (politely mind you) and whispered the raid leader. The raid leader might not care about the healthstones specifically, but they should be made aware that they pugged a failure of a lock (I would expect their dps to be dismal).

i am also the type of person that is very conservative with my soulshards, i got so tired of having to keep up with them that i made it mandatory to fill my bag when it gets half empty, i don't want to be in WG and suddenly realize i have 3 shards left. i use shadow burn pretty often in my rotation so those soul shards go fast.

if i was in that situation i would have just told the raid group that i was running out of shards and the other lock can explain why he can't do it, which when he says he hasn't trained it, he will look like a tard. what warlock or player for that matter hits 80 and doesn't learn all the spells? that is crazy!
