Vent(?): Girls in WoW
A number of years ago now I was having a conversation with an ex-guildmate. He was making a series of asinine comments about how, as a guy, staring at a guy's a$$ for hours at a time was "f#$(ing gay" and that was why he only made female characters. This is still one of the most absurd comments I've ever heard from a WoW player, so at the time, as a joke, I decided to make a female character called Iamaguy. Having a notoriously short attention span I didn't even bother to level her to 6 and leave the starting zone, and the guild member was booted soon afterwards anyway. However, with all this new mount business, and the fact that I now have a Horde Death Knight to fund a few Horde alt's I decided to start playing her again. Half an hour running around Undercity and I got "hit on" 3 times! Followed quickly by "oh crap, I didn't see your name, nevermind!!!" which definitely made me chuckle. Still though, WTF?? I mean I've heard of people getting harrassed and I suppose with a large teenage player base it's somewhat inevitable that you'll come across stupid people, but man, do I ever feel for girls who play WoW now. How socially retarded do you have to be to think it's a good idea to try out lines at some pixels on a screen? Especially considering there's a 50/50 chance it's some fat guy with a beard on the other end. |

Re: Vent(?): Girls in WoW
I can count the number of times I've been hit on on one hand - and that's spanning 5 years of play. Most of the time people just assume I'm a guy, and I don't flaunt my femininity, so unless I'm on vent, or you know me, it's not hugely obvious. Usually when hubby and I play in the same group it's a little more obvious because we smack talk each other, but then people know not to hit on me coz he's like right there lol. I've never had a problem being a female in WoW (or EQ) - so that's 10 years of onling gaming, no dramas. I get more attention for my accent when I used to play on US servers than my sex. I've even had 3 people call me from the other side of the world (guild mates, not random strangers lol) just to hear me speak lol.

Re: Vent(?): Girls in WoW
Well, my lock (being my 2nd char) is female, although I'm male myself. I simply think it looks better.

Re: Vent(?): Girls in WoW
I'm a guy and although not always I tend to play female toons. I just think they're nicer to look at, and I'm not talking sexually. Just more aesthetically pleasing. I've been hit on before. I tend to laugh at it, though. I usually respond with a /slap or something. I don't think I've ever told anyone I was guy. It doesn't matter too much and you can RP being offended, lol. |

Re: Vent(?): Girls in WoW
I too am a woman of wow for close to 5 years, my husband and I have always played on the same server with mutual friends, for the most part guys are cool with me in game as well as vent, you have the occasional guy that hits on your "female voice" but I too share the accent deal Akasha I am from Boston and people seem to enjoy my accent. nothing too overboard and if someone does get outta line I fix that in a hurry. so no complaints.

Re: Vent(?): Girls in WoW
Female gamer also. 70% of my toons are male & I've found that having a male avatar is usually enough to deter the fatbeards. But I've been hearing that same staring at a guy's a$$ for hours at a time was "f#$(ing gay" crap for 13 years now. I usually just respond with the female version & oddly enough that seems to be a concept that's hard to grasp for guys & does a pretty fair job of ending that whole topic. |
