Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
So I was in 25man VoA today. It was a pug of course. There were 2 other locks for a total of 3. I have done VoA since the Xpac came out and have had no luck at all in the place. Its really sad. Most of the time I just don't see Warlock gear drop, but when I do I always loose out. Normally I don't mind as its PvE gear and almost everyone uses/needs that so hey, fair is fair. Today however Furious legs and Furious hands dropped. I looked at the other two locks' gear and pvp stats when we were buffing up and noticed neither PvPed much. One of them had less than 500 HKs and the other had more, but neither Arena'd at all. Well of course they win the Furious gear. I quickly pst'd them and asked if they needed the gear because I did arean and that the gear would really help me out. The one pst'd back and said she didn't do arena but occassionally bg'd. That was it. She accepted the legs. Now.. ok.. fair is fair.. I know that. They rolled and they won, but I have to admit I was more than a littled ticked off. Furious pvp gear goes to people that will most likely not utilize it over a person that could really use it. I have passed on things in the past for the same exact reason. Yeah yeah.. I know.. thats the way it goes. But this is a vent and I sort of need to vent. A warrior buddy of mine and I had a conversation about this a few weeks ago and he said he hated that sort of thing and wished that there was some sort of restriction such as in order to accept the current seasons gear the person needed at least a rating of 1000. Now I agree with him. |

Some, like myself, do not arena because they are waiting to get gear from honor and voa. Something to keep in mind |

Same thing happened to me but it was the Furious belt that dropped...I lost by one. After VoA ended though I just went and bought the belt anyway, lol, but it would have been nice to have just won it instead of spending 62k honor. =P

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
I understand your frustration with losing it to a person who probably won't use it, but I don't really like the idea that someone who does arena "deserves" it over someone who runs a lot of BGs. I have tried arena and didn't much care for it, but I do enjoy BGs as long as the groups that day aren't full of morons. I do hope you have better luck in the future with VoA, I've been in there several times on 3 different toons and have yet to win anything on any of them.

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
they could use the pvp gear to substitute for pve. did you inspect them? nevermind the fact it's a pug... most people don't rightly care much about others seeing as the probability of you running into the other 24 others again is closer to 0 on a high pop server |

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
yeah I did inspect them. The one probably could use it as pve gear. The other was in all T8.5 gear so I know she didn't need it. Coud is totally right though. It was a pug and they didn't care that I could use it and they couldn't. They won the loot and thats all that matters. I know that. I have in the past passed up gear because another player needed something more than me. It was PvE gear and at that time I didn't PvE much so I didn't mind. I have done that more than a few times really. Thats the kind of person I am, so in a way when I don't see other behave that way it gets to me. Meh.. I have waited half nearly half a year.. I guess I am bound to get lucky sooner than later. I just started a 3s team so maybe I will be able to get the gear anyway (positive thinking )

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
Belthezor, I totally agree with you. In my situation I don't need anything from VoA, but It was very irritating to watch people try to take pvp gear when they do not pvp. There are bunches of honor peices as well as hatefule being avail from honor, If they want gear to do battlegrounds, then they should do battlegrounds and get honor to buy them. Now I'm not saying people who arena deserve the peices more, but some people could be polite and pass to someone who will use it more than them. Before I had everything I would whisper the other locks and find out what they need and make a deal with them like "I'll pass on pve gear, if you pass on pvp gear" and it usually works out. Like you said though, some stuff just happens and theres nothing we can really do about it, I wish you luck in your future runs.

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
I recently lost tier shoulders for my main to a pally alt in my guild, so I feel your pain (we don't have a dkp system in place for 10man Naxx since it's primarily on farm). I'm not happy about it, but I'm not too upset, either. When someone asks me why I can't join their Ulduar raids, I'll just have to remind the guild that I keep losing gear to alts. Unfortunately, other people are only thinking of what they need/want when loot drops. I agree the best way to ensure that you get what you want is to discuss it before the item ever drops. I've certainly agreed to pass on gear in the past if I felt the other player needed it more than me - but I would not have been aware of that need if the other player never mentioned it.

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"
And there are tier set pieces available from emblems. No one's going to stop you from rolling for a T8 piece if you're not raiding Ulduar though. As long as they have a use for the gear and didn't just roll for it to leave it in their bank then I think it's ok to roll. |
