Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"

It is sort of a catch 22...if you don't pvp much and then you give it a try by joining a BG, you die really fast because you don't have the gear for it. And that reinforces not liking pvp.

So some locks may be getting the gear so that they can start in on battlegrounds at least to get more gear in order to break into the arena scene. You won't even be looked at at by a relatively casual arena team if you don't have a lot of pvp gear at this point.

I thought all the people who actually do pvp (especially arenas) had been doing so for a while had access to higher tiers of pvp gear than what drops in VoA anyways?

I'm the only dps clothie in the group that doesn't have that or better so I roll a 22, but I don't care since no one else *should* need it -- I even had the mats to enchant it with +63sp that night in hopes it would.

Then the holy pally rolls a 23.

Fuuuuuudge (although I wasn't thinking "fudge").

Fortunately the raid leader tells him he shouldn't need on that and gives it to me, although I think that if the pally were in a different group he would have totally swiped it from some other hapless lock (probably you Belthezor with your luck -- if you needed it of course ). I've even run several things with that pally so it goes to show you that it isn't always PUG players that do that to you.

...
Yeah that is completely ridiculous. The exact same thing happened to me in one of my first Uld10 pug experiences with that exact blade.

+hit is definitely not a pally healing main hand to win over a warlock. It's way more of an upgrade for you than for him, that was just crap of him to roll on it.

The worst part for me though is the raid leader didn't have it on master loot. The pally rolled need. Thank god I won the roll. I was 'polite' in the pug and said everyone should calm down even if the pally wins the roll, I'll live with it and we should still continue the run. I mean, I guess I could have yelled and screamed at that point but the only thing it would have served would be to have broken up the run which I really wanted to down more bosses anyway.

RL put it on master loot after that since it was clear we couldn't fully trust the run otherwise though.

As an aside, that blade suited me for a couple months until I got the runescribed blade eventually from 25man. So it was definitely a mainhand put to good use as I raid a lot.

Re: Why ppl roll for gear they don't "need"

Tesk,

Arena players have access to higher level PvP gear. BG gear is 2 seasons below Arena. The way it is now is Hateful=BG Deadly=Lower Level Arena Furious=Higher Level Arena.

25man VoA (Emelon) Drops Furious gear which is the highest level of PvP gear you can get right now.

Now I am not sure but I have been hearing rumors that the patch may go live this tuesday or next? So the season will probably close soon and the cycle will continue. Deadly will be the BG gear and Furious will be lower level Arena. VoA will probably get another boss or maybe and upgrade of sorts to reflect this. (of topic, but I haven't heard anything about VoA and the new patch? Has anyone?)

Wow, pretty good to shoot straight up to the runescribed blade. For me i went straight from titansteel spellblade to plasma foil. Was an awesome upgrade. I only run Ulduar10 though with guild, but it's sometimes annoying when we haven't got the people and have to invite the less serious guildies who do 1500 dps (been a long night tonight...), then they win all the rolls. Didn't happen to me but the fact is these people aren't the core raiders and never come to progress raids such as on Yogg etc for when the core really do need that gear. But oh well, no raid would have happened otherwise, and i guess it's always useful to gear up others to back us up once in a while.

To be honest, i'm still running with hateful gear for BGs and still have 750 resilience. The furious stuff is only there to increase your spell power and stamina and rely less on gemming for resilience etc. As much as spell power does more damage, even with minimal spell power you can still 2 shot people with conflag/chaos bolt in BGs.

But like i say, if it's an upgrade, people will roll, whether they actually 'need' it or not, for pvp that is. What im saying is you dont really need furious gear in a BG to win the game. You do however, in arena.
