Re: Something I've started to notice.... and a message.
I've been tanking heroics on my DK alt and I learnt a lot about fail heroics. When I started I had 24khp 22K armour, 35% mitigation without counting miss chance (frigid dreadplate) and was defense capped. I was marginally geared and inexperienced. I could do it but everyone had to have *at least* my gear and skill. This I'm sure is how heroics are supposed to be. I eventually gathered more gear got more practice, became "competent" I'd say, if I have a good group I can destroy AN in 15 minutes. DPS needs to give me a second to debuff and position, the healer needs to be able to heal through. Broadly speaking an incompetent tank will wipe a group. I've wiped through my own inexperience. However I found the thing that killed me most was people undergeared for heroics, not even got level 74-78 crafteds a few rep items and some IC/SP quest gear. Healers who cannot keep me up through trash damage, DPS who cannot out DPS me and more. DPS isn't always a problem but on any fight with waves of enemy or enrages or ones that get exponentially longer with low DPS (like anomolas) or soft enrages, low DPS *will* kill you. That's the worst but DPS who cannot count to 10 to let my runes cool off from my DnD so they know I've obliterated (figuratively.. hunters who go all out from the 2nd second and dont MD are a pain) they make it very hard. And while they rarely directly wipe a heroic they throw the tank off and can lead to wipes or longer kills because they're dead. They will often wipe raids though... I turned a healer away with 1100sp who hadn't even quested in IC. |

Re: Something I've started to notice.... and a message.
I have to agree with the first post (though 3 pages back) I just hit 80 a week or two ago and worked my ass off making sure my spec was good and my rotation was solid so that I could survive in heroics and toc and other entry-level stuff, to get better gear and not get a /gkick for being fail dps. I'm glad I did the work because I got into my guild's Naxx 10 the other night, got a few epics, got the emblems for my Conq. Deathbringer headpiece, and I'm up to 1.7k (aff) self-buffed still wearing some blues and greens. Granted, I'm still in lackluster gear and need to do more research for destro (whether to go for +haste or +crit for example), but I'm still working my way through. I've found through experience that working the progression will breed more skill, as you'll need to be -good- to cut your place into a group when there's other better geared players that could be looking for the same run as you. So OP you get my thumbs up for that post, but there's one thing I'd like to add. Ask questions. If your DPS is low and you're not sure if it's your gear or spec or rotation, or you want some advice, or you don't know if your DPS is high enough for [raid/dungeon/heroic] then ask someone. Forums like this or Guild Chat will probably get you some good advice and you may learn something you didn't know. Just not General chat, they'll only spam you. |
