Re: Demonic Aegis
I read through all the old posts for DA and didn't see anything that addresses the important question to me. Being heavy affliction there is only one fair way to consider Demonic Aegis. What could I pick up for 13 points in destro and how does it compare... boost your hp, party hp, and pet dps vs. boost shadow bolt dps Being heavy affliction the only time I cast a shadow bolt is when nightfall procs (along with extra 2% from glyph). It's a nice boost in dps but it has to crit before I see any benefit from 13 points in destro. And it actually takes 15 points to max ruin... With all my other points in affliction I really think it could go either way. A load of extra stamina for survivability with a little boost in imp dps vs an improvement in dps when my 6% chance of having a free shadowbolt procs and it happens to crit. I'm inclined to take the sure thing since dead warlocks dps is really low... I'm still questing too so the extra hp's are a nice cushion for soloing. It's a lot of talent points to spend without going deeper in demon but to me the only reason not to take DA is if you lighten up a bit on affliction and go quite a bit deeper into destro. |

Re: Demonic Aegis
i am heavy affliction (55/0/16) and still use SB as a filler spell when Haunt is on CD and it still contributes a significant portion of my raid dps. as far as the demo talents go, with 0 points in it while leveling, i had no problem keeping my hp up with Haunt, Siphon Life, and Drain Life while tackling 5+ mobs or just chain killing single mobs. thats the beauty of being a lock, you can clear an entire area and still have near-full hp and mana. maybe its your spell rotation that is holding you back. this was my strat on chain killing single mobs: send pet>UA>Corr>(send pet to next mob, continue casting on first mob)>SB>Haunt>start casting UA on next mob. LT before Haunt returns health. ta daa, mob down, nearly full hp/mana while already killing the next mob. you could even throw in SL if you're feeling conservative. the first mob will probably be running at you SB hits, but if you distance yourself right (between first and second mobs, run while casting instants) he will either die or only hit you a couple of times. if multiple mobs, there is no time or reason for SB so just send pet on first mob, do your normal dot casts, cast haunt, and then run around and dot everything else up. SL, Haunt, and DL should keep you relatively safe. if not you got death coil for some instant health, and HoT as a panic button. so, thats how you level and survive without putting points in demo. as for the added dps of DA, fully specced it will give you 30% (for simple math, i will round up to 33.33%). at rank 4, FA gives you 180 sp and 30% sp from spirit; with DA, it will be 240 sp + 40% sp from spirit. i do not know, mathematically speaking, if that is more raid friendly than going full Ruin, which i did. but it is nice to see 5-6k SB crits (wrath greens, blues, level 70 epics and NOT maximized for crit) while still dishing out some nice affliction damage (always top 2 in instances). if anyone does have the math, i would love to see it, as i'm looking to respec now that i will be running mostly raids/instances. also, my description of DA is how it works, right? please correct me if i'm wrong. remember, i did round up to make the math easy. Re: Demonic Aegis
not commenting on usefullness, just saying what it actually does to fel armor, at 3 points in felarmor does 39% spirit becomes spellpower, and you regenerate 2-3% of your total health every 4 seconds |

Re: Demonic Aegis
Hmm a couple things might have been making DA more appealing to me by gimping my dps when I tried my points in destro. #1 I was not shooting out the initial shadowbolt to get the 2nd stack of shadow embrace #2 I was using drain life instead of shadow bolt as a filler and only casting shadowbolt when I got a proc for an instant cast #3 my haste is over 500 while my crit is only about 11%. I think I need more crit to really make the talents work for me Guess I'm getting a bit off topic here but I was just hoping to compare 13 points to pick this talent up for a small boost in dps and group utility compared to how much 15 boosts to raw dps. |
