Re: Chaos Bolt
Further Explanation: Chaos bolt is a short cast-time nuke that gets a good spell damage co-efficient and has the highest Damage Per Cast Time (meaning that for the time you spend casting it, it does the most damage) of any of the destro spells. For those who heard about this spell when it was first conceived back in beta you remember that it was created with the mechanic to pierce through immunity effects like ice block and pally bubble, this is no longer the case. The only thing that this spell does is pierces through an absorb bubble (Power Word:Shield, Ice Barrier, Mana Shield, Cheat Death, etc.) and it can not be resisted (no item-based resistances, no talent-based resistances like Cloak of Shadows). Talent while Levelling: If you are deep destruction while you are leveling then you are probably in one of two situations. First, you simply like the big numbers and play funstyle of destro in which case this talent is certainly to your liking. It does high damage with a short cast time and low mana cost. Secondly, you are leveling with another class and kill times are accelerated so you specced destruction so that you don't have to rely on dots. In this case, Chaos Bolt is also a worthwhile investment. Additional information / Common Questions: It should be noted that in a level 70 pve environment, with the removal of the mana cost reduction element in backdraft some people are debating the worthiness of speccing deep enough into destro to pick up this talent. However, those who do will find this new spell which is abosolutely worth it's talent point in both pvp and pve. |

Chaos Bolt
What effects does it actually penetrate? I have tried it on several classes and it does work on. Rogues; Cloak of Shadows Mages; Mana Shield, Ice Shield thingy Paladins; Zip Priests; Power Word; Shield Warlocks; Nether Protection Warriors; Spell Reflect (Not sure) Druids; Barkskin Shamans; Water Shield, Lightning Shield, Earth Shield Hunters; Zip NPCs; I havent had the chance to test it out yet, but my guess is; Karazhan; The Mana Shield mobs before Curator. Black Temple; Naj'Entus' Tidal Shield? Anyone else can confirm/add to this :S? |

Re: Chaos Bolt
On another note, what is everybody's cast time on the Chaos Bolt? With Bane + Haste, the tooltip cast time it states for me is 1.3 seconds. When I cast it, it seems to take 1.8 seconds =/ |

Re: Chaos Bolt
i noticed it goes through mage's mana sheild, but not ice block. So far i saw it go through PW:Shield and Cloak of shadows. I really wish it went though pally bubble! |

Re: Chaos Bolt
It says it pierces "absorption effects", so I would guess the Voidwalker's Sacrifice should be added to the list.

Re: Chaos Bolt
it goes through all 'absorb' (like mana shield, void sac) and 'resist' (like CloS) but not 'immune' (like bubble, ice block) it used to go through immunities too, but was nerfed, which sucks |

Re: Chaos Bolt
Make sure you trained Rank 2!!!!!! The only bad thing about Chaos Bolt is that you can't cast it more often. That spell is EVIL. I had a 9K crit with it the other day (that's off a 1.3 second cast with Haste) vs. 8K crits off Backdrafted Soulfires....... |

Re: Chaos Bolt
Chaos bolt rocks. Massive damage, tiny mana cost, short cast time, huge potential for PVE. For PVP it's very nice, as well, in that it's a big, quick nuke. While Raiding, it's my favorite spell. When the CD's up, I pop it and have seen numbers as big as 9000 with a 1.3 second cast (lolol). This is obscene. Many haters haven't trained it to rank two (I'm a convert lol). Additional comments: It should pop through Pally bubbles in PVP. It should blow through FR in PVE, but meh, that would be OP (I guess). |

Re: Chaos Bolt
Chaos Bolt is a pure and simple nuke. It is a shadow bolt/incinerate nice nuke with high damage, low mana cost, and low cast time. Talent while PvP Battlegrounds: It goes through absorption effects, but the absorption effect like the shield remains there to absorb your next spell, so the benefits are minimal. The 12 sec short Cooldown is a compensation I guess. I am sure if it were allowed to pierce even immunities, the Cooldown will be a lot longer. Right now, Chaos Bolt won't be used in PvP, because if you take Chaos Bolt, you cannot have Soul Link. While a chaos bolt is a nice addition to a destro lock's arsenal, Soul Link is more useful at the moment.
