Re: Patch 3.1 Affliction and Talent ruin (Dest)
any deep affliction build that's used for raiding will take 5/5 of ruin, and it would be silly not to ESPECIALLY after 3.1, considering we will now be using shadow bolts that much more often. all the numbers and research back this up - if you take one point out of ruin, you will not find any other place to put it which will increase your dps just as much. |

Re: Patch 3.1 Affliction and Talent ruin (Dest)
I still don't see how some people still argue that ruin is worth taking 5 points into. Yes people, it makes your main nuke scale well with crit. Yes, you need to take all 5 points into it! I see way too many people that don't get this simple concept of shadowbolt being like 40% of your damage, which is why we want to make it was powerful as possible. |

We're all quite aware that Ruin is important - telling us that without qualification doesn't do any good. At the moment, I'm trying to decide whether 2 more points in Eradication is better then 2 more points in Ruin. |

-Imp felhunter? Even though Divine spirit is now baseline and mage int has always been better? -Imp Healthstones? Even though the increase in healing done from it is not going to save your raid from a wipe? Really though? What is your build and why? |

Re: Ruin
Ruin is mandatory for all raiding builds, it is a large component in your ability to scale to crit. In the least shadowbolt heavy builds this adds about 1/4 of your crit chance to your damage done, over 5 talents. Which means that when you have a modest amount of gear, this will provide at least 1% per rank. With raid buffs it could be around 2% per rank. For a build which uses lots of destruction damage, it would be closer % more damage per talent point. That's a lot of damage for one talent. This is mandatory for pve. Like bane. Maxing it out is the only way to go. For an affliction build, those points are likely to be going into utility talents, on top of that, do consider that shadowbolt is half your damage, and that on short fights, it's considerably more. This talent is vital for nuking down short lived but dangerous adds, trash and more. |
