Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
Immolation is one of the highest DPS glyphs we have, and is a far better DPS boost than the Meta glyph, especially in high end gear where you have lots of spirit. Elitist Jerks will have all the math done, but their results with math and simcraft says that Felguard, Immolation, and Life Tap glyphs are your top DPS choice for a Meta/Ruin Warlock. The Meta glyph is pretty bad, a very minor DPS increase the last time I had a working spreadsheet to calculate it on, and worth less than 1/2 of the immo glyph to me. The problem with Metamorphosis as a whole is that it only buffs damage and doesn't scale nearly as well as other specs. That means that ESPECIALLY with Ulduar level gear, you should ditch the Meta glyph for the immo glyph. As a fresh 80 in greens and quest blues, Meta might be a closer call than the life tap glyph, but with any decent amount of spirit it's far superior. The Life Tap glyph will ALWAYS be desired so long as you are running a spec that needs to life tap. Currently only specs with Improves Soul Leech have a better option, because they soul leech and imp. soul leech give them so much mana back that they rarely need to tap. Come 3.2 (according to the current patch notes) the LT glyph will get even better, and it looks like EVERY speck of warlock will be running the lifetap glyph. Those Meta locks running Meta/Ruin and DP for the raid SP buff may find breaking 4T7 a very tough call. The 4T7 life tap buff + the Life Tap glyph + trinket procs is a TON of spellpower and that makes Demonic Pact the best raid SP buff around.

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
I now have 3 pieces of T8 and with the 2 piece bonus boosting Immolates damage, swapping out the Meta glyph for Immolate is a no brainer for sure. The difference in numbers was definitely noticeable at that point. As for the 4T7 bonus it gives an additional 60 spellpower. If you can break your set bonus to get what you had before + 60 more spellpower (and whatever you get from Fel Armor) I don't see why we wouldn't break the bonus. I just recently broke mine up to test it out and it's easily done even with Ulduar 10 gear to get more spellpower overall than what you'd have living with 4T7 in end-game Ulduar bosses, depending on the +300 spirit boost. Am I wrong on this one? |

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
Once you are up to Heroic 5 man level of gear you should not be using glyph of Meta. Your glyphs should be Felguard, Immolate, and Lifetap. 300 sp is = 100 Spellpower thanks to Fel Armor, although it's not up 100% of the time. You would have to do the math, but +60 spellpower vs. +100 60% of the time is a wash. It's close enough you might want to test it out and see what works best for you, or theorycraft it out, but you have the idea of the trade off. Now if breaking the set gets you 60 SP + some more crit + some more haste... now you are getting even more benefit to help out weight breaking the set bonus.

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
Yikes. I was Demonology for only a very short time, but I used Glyph of Meta, Felguard and Corr as my three. Feguard is an obvious must. Corr, for the instant shadow bolt.. I wasn't really sure about this one though, I admit. Meta though I loved. I could be in demon form almost all the time and that was a huge buff to dps. The immolation arua and shadow bolt spamming was fun. I never used Immolate and Life tap for Demo though so can't compare. I am just suprised to hear meta isn't good after heroic 5s as I was in epics when I used it. Silly me. |

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
I'm not saying the Meta glyph isn't good, it just isn't AS GOOD for your DPS as the Life Tap glyph. The Life Tap glyph gives me 20% of my spirit as spell power for 20 seconds. I currently have almost 400 spirit in mostly Heroics gear, so that's 80 spellpower each time I lifetap. As Meta, I life tap fairly regularly, and I use Rank 1 life tap just before each pull to get it started. That's a really solid DPS gain, and a lot more than the Meta glyph can do for me. They need to significantly fix the Meta glyph for it to be able to compete for a major glyph spot. For 6 extra seconds, I'd only take it as a minor. Now if they changed it to say, also increase my haste and crit by 20% while in Meta form, now we are talking turkey! Wishful thinking on my part... but it would help fix our scaling problems in higher end gear. I think you'd find that in Heroics especially, the "Meta almost all the time" is mostly coming from your Nemesis talent, and the Meta glyph has little to do with it. In good Heroic groups, everything dies so fast that the extra 6 seconds in Meta form doesn't seem to matter to my DPS overall.

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
Want to kick start this again, I recently respecced Demo for my guild. We are trying hardmode TotC now and the 500-600 SP increase. I currently have Life Tap, Felguard and Meta as my glyphs, although I'm not entirely sure about them. I just need some advice from someone with experience with BOTH Meta and Immo/Corruption. I figured Corruption might be worth it due to the instanct cast, but I doubt it's as good as Meta in the long run. Ultimately, I can't decide between Meta and Immo. Obviously since Immo is always up that's a great buff. Anyway, does anyone have any advice for me on this please? |

Re: Patch 3.1 Demonology Glyphs - What will you use?
No experience, but I got some math: Immolate is 8% of your damage, and we get a 10% boost to the dot-part. So the glyph is a 0.6-0.7% damage boost. The meta glyph gives you 6 seconds additional uptime each 126 seconds, and Meta only boosts the warlocks damage, not that of the felguard who does ~25% of the total damage. So we have, disregarding immolation aura, 6/126*0.2*0.75 = 0.7% damage boost. Add the additional 4-5 seconds you can use immolation aura and Meta wins |
