3.1 PVP Glyph Choices
This is a beta thread for understanding our glyph choices for PVP, hopefully, some of you Den'rs can go out there and try them and then come back here and report on your findings. Il ask akasha for admin rights and keep updating this thread with players feedback. Firstly, my opinions of what the pvp glyphs are and how effective they will be, here are my top two must have's for those that cant be bothered to scroll: Shadowflame ***** Use: Your Shadowflame also applies a 70% movement speed slow on its victims. an 8sec 70% slow is amazing!, coupled with a teleport and melee are in trouble! Macro a button to trink on first click (turn to face rogue), Shadowflame on second click, Teleport on third click, /wave on fourth click. Soul Link ***** Use: Increases the percentage of damage shared via your Soul Link by an additional 5%. This with Soul Link + Molton Skin gives a total of 31% damage Resistance.. wow. thats awesome! while its better if your demo since your pet can actually take some punishment(with proper management), this glyph is a must have. Glyph of: Corruption ** Use: Your Corruption spell has a 4% chance to cause you to enter a Shadow Trance state after damaging the opponent. The Shadow Trance state reduces the casting time of your next Shadow Bolt spell by 100%. This glyph can be fun, but the low chance randomness of the proc makes it a waste of a glyph space for a serious pvp'r. Death Coil ** Use: Increases the duration of your Death Coil by 0.5 sec. Only use for this is getting your fear off before DC ends, however, its situational Demonic Circle * Use: Reduces the cooldown on Demonic Circle by 4 sec. I really dont get this glyph, 4 seconds reduces the cd from 30secs to 26secs, its clearly a pvp glyph but it doesnt seem worth it, comments? I think perhaps 10 seconds would be actually useful for a major glyph slot. Fear * Use: Increases the damage your Fear target can take before the Fear effect is removed by 20%. Fears damage cap has been nerfed to 3k, so this glyph allows an extra 600 damage... assuming the target isnt immune to fear... rubbish. FelGuard *** Use: Increases the Felguard's total attack power by 20%. Assuming you have a Felguard, then you likely also have Demonic Brutality, with this glyph your FG starts on +20% AP and gives a mix gain of +100% AP. This glyph is decent because the damage the felguard will be putting out is tough to ignore, and may cost your opoent valuable CC or dps time. FelHunter * Use: When your felhunter uses Devour Magic, you will also be healed for that amount. Provides the lock with a 1k+ heal every 8 seconds assuming the FH isn't CC'd/focussed down. there may be uses for this but I cant think of them. Health Funnel ***/*****? Use: Increases the chance you'll resist spell interruption when channeling your Health Funnel spell by 100%. This has a chance of being a great interrupt aborber, especially combined with a FG build/health funnel talent, all classes will instinctively fire their interrupt as soon as they see you channelling and poof, its wasted, allowing you to cast freely. COMMENTS ON THIS? Healthstone ** Use: You receive 30% more healing from using a healthstone. talented HS is 5136, with this, its 6677(+1540 health), if you have demon armour on its 8012(+2876). The normal healthstone is 4280, so this(inc talent points) gives an extra 3720 health. The question here is the scale of the heal, firstly the time spent pressing a button to get the heal is more worth it, plus, it can crit for an even bigger heal, potentially saving you from being burst. Still, im not a fan personally. Howl of Terror **/*****(if talented) Use: Reduces the cooldown on your Howl of Terror spell by 8 sec. A great glyph! takes Howl of Terror's CD from 40secs down to 32ses which is about the time you need it again. iHoT is more of a defensive spell, if you get rushed by melee, its your lifeline. Metamorphosis ***** Use: Increases the duration of your Metamorphosis by 6 sec. Coupled with 3/3 Nemesis, this changes meta from a 30sec/3min CD spell to a 36sec/2min CD spell. meaning the spells uptime goes from 20% to 43%(as opposed to 33% with just the talent), thats over double!! if you go as far as meta, you have to have this. Searing Pain *(if you are destro)/** Use: Increases the critical strike bonus of your Searing Pain by 20%. SP is a filler Direct Damage spell with a faster cast time than Shadow Bolts, its also a Fire spell which means that if you are spell interupted while casting it you dont lose access to your shadow spells. however, the bonus isnt a huge amount more damage. better if you go up to imp SP. Shadowburn *** Use: Increases the critical strike chance of Shadowburn by 20% when the target is below 35% health. I personally like this glyph, used well it can help put the nail in the coffin, something warlocks are finding difficult to accomplish. Shadowflame ***** Use: Your Shadowflame also applies a 70% movement speed slow on its victims. an 8sec 70% slow is amazing!, coupled with a teleport and melee are in trouble! Macro a button to trink on first click (turn to face rogue), Shadowflame on second click, Teleport on third click, /wave on fourth click. Siphon Life *** Use: Increases the healing you receive from your Siphon Life talent by 25%. This actually means an additional 10%(50% total) of your Corr ticks will heal, means an additional 100 - 200 heal ever 3 seconds per application. Im not a fan, but id have to try it out. Soul Link ***** Use: Increases the percentage of damage shared via your Soul Link by an additional 5%. This with Molton Skin gives a total of 31% damage Resistance.. wow. thats awesome! while its better if your demo since your pet can actually take some punishment(with proper management), this glyph is a must have. Soul Stone */**(BG's) Use: Increases the amount of health you gain from resurrecting via your Soulstone by 300%. meaning your SoulStone gives you 15900 health and 12900 mana!! once every 30 minutes you'll be able to raise from death with full health/mana!! great for BG's, cant be used in arena's and only works on you :( Succubus *** Use: Your Succubus's Seduction ability also removes all damage over time effects from the target. This is a strange one, designed for arena play, it guarantees the seduction wont be broken(without a trink), tho they nerf the succy talent, this is still a viable cc route to take. IDEA'S? OK EVERYONE PLEASE POST COMMENTS CONSTRUCTIVELY GIVING YOUR OPINIONS ON THESE GLYPHS AND ANY OTHERS I MIGHT HAVE MISSED OUT, IF YOU CAN LINK TO THEORYCRAFTING THEN THATS EVEN BETTER! LETS MAKE THIS THE "GO TO" FOR PVP GLYPHS! Disclaimer: These views are currently my own and are untested, only flame if its green! EDIT: Also see these threads for spec specific glyph discussion: Affliction Demonology Destruction --- Information Added --- any comments? what will you be taking and why? EDIT: can a dev move this to the glyph's forum, cheers Last edited by Liche; April 16, 2009 at 09:12 AM.. |

Fear and CoEx glyphs were my most favourite before 3.1. I don't know how useful the fear glyph will be now that Fear is supposed to be used defensively for escaping purposes. I like Soul Link, Shadowflame and Howl of Terror for BGs. CoEx as minor glyph. Shadowburn instead of HoT if so talented and don't mind shard management. I might try out Searing Pain, Death Coil and Conflagarate glyphs but the rest I am not interested in right now. I find Succubus glyph very attractive for arena battles. |

A good post. Glyph of UA, Conflag appear to be missing. My recommendations would be: Affliction: Shadowflame Soul link UA Meta: Shadowflame Soul link Meta Dest: Shadowflame Soul link Conflag |

Re: 3.1 PVP Glyph Choices
I find your points in the start very convincing, Especially Sou Link, with moltenarmor and glyph. It gives near up the same mitigation Soullink used to be and is very powerful vs melee but also vs casters. 2nd i like the idea of Shadowflame glyph in theory it should be very useful to escape melee with it. Combined with CoEx and Improved fear and aftermath on conflag. You have now several ways to slow down the oponent. And slow is ALWAYS useful in arena. 3rd i choose Searing Pain glyph, since i have it tallented and mainly uses it as my filler when all other options is used. this however is not a deadset in stone choice yet. If i for instance find conflag glyph to be more usefull, keeping those dots from immolate and icinerate still active i might try it out too. And also like skinnertor recommends this is very selective according to what specc you choose .. and even though he has divided them into each tree i think with the diffrent hybrid pvp speccs around it will be even more complex than that. There is certian talents that is useless for pvp this is no doubt though. |
