3.1 Lifetap Glyph FAQ

  • How often should I lifetap?
Ideally, you want to estimate how many lifetaps you will need during the course of a fight. You would then take those lifetaps and spread them out evenly over the fight's duration. If you do it correctly you'll be OOM just as the boss dies.

  • But what if I have the 4pc T7 bonus?
It doesn't matter, and doesn't change the above statement.

  • But you said I could add it to my rotation?
I should have clarified, that it did not mean to lifetap all the time or every 20 seconds or whatever. It meant what I have now said and clarified above.

  • Can I lifetap when I move?
Yes, assuming you have nothing else that needs to be refreshed first.

  • But how do you know this?
The information comes from the elitist jerks simcraft theorycrafting thread. You can read it there for yourself if you'd like. If you disagree, and you want to argue the point, provide in-depth math and analysis.

  • What specs use the lifetap glyph?
Almost all specs use the glyph, with the exception being any build that uses Improved Soul Leech.

Without 4pc T7, should I even bother having the glyph?

Provided the glyph is useful even without 4pc T7, what is the recommended minimum spirit?

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

The Glyph is better than anything else we have available to us. However, the Glyph math is dependent on the fact that we would normally have to Life Tap throughout a fight for the mana alone. Glyph math is done typically without 4 pc T7 in mind.

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

My spirit with 4pc t7 was still less than about 500ish when I was wearing Naxx25ish gear.

Assuming a life tap once a minute, that means you'll have an extra 300 spirit every 10 seconds for every minute which is about 300/6 = 50 spirit. So as soon as you get Ulduar gear that gives you more than 50ish spirit, it will replace the t7.5 bonus if you are just life tapping for keeping your mana up per this FAQ which might be once a minute instead of 100% uptime of once every 20 seconds.

Overall with a smattering of uld25 gear, I have at least 100 spirit more than wearing all my t.5, so I think even if you life tap enough for 66-70% uptime, the ulduar gear spirit upgrades will still win out over the transient 4/4 t7.5 bonus

I use life tap rank 1 for my sp boost and only life tap rank 8 (I think) for when I'm almost OOM etc.

This a good idea? Or shall I just do as the faq says and use it evenly around the fight and get the life tap glyph proc at those times.

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

If have read al the threads now and if im right if you have only 2 t7 items, you shouldnt tap every 20 sec. I have the 41/30 and 3/13/55 spec and tap every 20 sec for the extra sp. Is there an sort of dps report that realy shows an dps increase when you only tap when you need the mana, coz im still thinking that the extra sp of life tap every 20 sec is better :S.. im trying to understand but maby a dps report will clear my mind :s

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

Somebody post the facts about why full affliction warlocks with 4pcT7 and GoLT do NOT LT every 20 secs.

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

I'd love to know this too. Without the T7 bonus but still. Is there any point in the glyph at all without doing this?!

Re: Lifetap Glyph FAQ

Check the simcraft thread if you're looking for answers. The FAQ here draws it's info from there.
