scammed out of a lot of mats

I spent ages collecting mats for my belt of blasting.. finally got enough found a level 70 in the trade channel to craft it. met the guy gave him ALL The mats and what do i get for this? He basically just teleports out. HAHa jokes me one. 1000+ gold of mats down the drain.

I opened a GM to ticket to report his *** of course. Do you think there is any chance I'll get my stuff back? I figures blizzard doesn't really care about this sort of thing.

I guess I am an idiot for trusting people but hey I have opened trade windows dozens of times and never got burned and of course would never burn someone. this sort of scum ruins the game.

Re: scammed out of a lot of mats

you'd be surprised... blizzard does act on these sort of problems
it may take some time, but you may find your ticket will be moved up a few times but you should get your mats back.

one of my guildmates had a similar issue with a mongoose enchant, and while it did take the staff about a week to go through the logs, he got the mats back in the end.

good luck and sorry to hear it happened, theres a reason i never go out of guild for any crafting.

Re: scammed out of a lot of mats

Maybe, maybe not. I've had stuff ninja'd like that and the GM just told me that they cannot punish that type of action because it's the player's choice or some BS like that. Although there are some GMs that I've heard that will restore your mats. I've seen both sides...try another GM later if it doesn't work out.

Hopefully you took screenshots or something. Post on your realm forum if you want (that's where the screenshots help) and inform his guild and the server.

I think blizzard would return the mats to you and punish the person, its their system, they made hte game that way, they should atleast protect people

Re: scammed out of a lot of mats

They usually take action as long as there is proof that a trade was agreed upon - ie whispers along the line of you will give him the mats and in return he will give you the item...

Then if he broke his end of the deal he is scamming.

What I think CanadianPimp is referring to is the older generation of GM's who say that if someone scams you then it is their choice and part of the game as this is an RPG and the role they are playing is that of a devious scammer etc

Good luck though and I hope you get a decent GM

Re: scammed out of a lot of mats

unfortunetly there wasn't much screen shots to be had. When I met the guy in IF he took my mats then just immediately hearthed out and logged. tryed whispering a fe people in his guild but it was late most people were logged out by then.

no way am I going to lay down on this he is in a very popular guild. I will end up whispering the 100+ people in his guild telling everyone what a scum he is for what he did. he might as well delete his character or change the name.

*** Information added 16 Minutes and 3 Seconds later... ***

Oh this is classic. Today I get an in game email from the dude saying "He got on his friends character and that he had an earthquake and his power went out." ya right amazing that the second I gave him 1000G in mats he has to teleport out and his power shuts off.

in any case he sends me the belt. i actually got my shit back. My guess is the guy PROBABLY got cold feet thinking that a good chance Blizzard might suspend his account if he doesn't return the item.

He had 360 tailoring so there is NO way he could have crafted the item himself he must have transfered the mats off then feeling guilty from my email to him returned it. Yes that was WISE decision because I would have made it my personal mission to stalk this guy.

Re: scammed out of a lot of mats

I'm glad you got your mats back. Whenever I'm trading mats for crafts or whatever, I always open trade, load up mats, then reaffirm in /party or /whisper 'X and Y for Z, right?' - Screenshot it and hope for the best after they agree.

Rarely do I get other people to craft for me though.

Not to be an ***, but why didn't you check his tailoring skill before you made the trade?

This is something I always do on the rare occasion that I have to use someone who is either not in guild or on my friends list.

What a toad the guy is!
I'm glad yougot the item you were after.Beltof blasting is great i use it my self.
I have been on the other side of the coin at one stage (though 'porting out probes he was a scammer IMO). Some 1 in trade wanted something made & i could craft it ( I can't rememeber what it was. It may have been an enchant). we met in Shattrath & he traded the mats & i went to make it & it came up couldn't do it or something. I told the person this so we mounted up & flew outside shattrath & it worked. I don't know why it happened though the server was a bit screwy at the time.

It was late, I let down my guard and I was certainly an idiot for trusting him.

But at the same token why should anyone trust me with their mats? As an enchanter I have on a dozen occasions complete strangers giving me 600-
700 in mats for me to do enchants for them. I could have scammed so many people not that I would ever consider it. But you see Blizzard DOES in fact have a strict policy that says every scamming incident is taken very seriously and the offender has an excellent chance of having their accounts suspended if proven.

Based on the fact that i got my belt and a lame excuse so quickly afterwards its impossible for me to determine if he was just trying to get a fat tip for making the belt by logging on his friends account and couldn't get on OR if his conscious caught up with him and he decided to make good on the deal.
Having a level 70 account banned would be a serious headache for anyone.

I doesn't much matter tho I won't put my self in that situation again.
