Server Style

i wanted to start this threat because i have been quite disappointed in my server lately. i am on the US PVE server Alleria, which is full of children and trade trolls. you can't even ask a question on trade without getting stupid answers and jokes thrown at you. so i am wondering... are RP servers any better than a normal server? what about RPPVP?

are they more strict on trade chat? are the people more mature?

what kind of server are you guys on and what is the status (maturity, economy etc) of the server?

so throw out your opinions; what is best? Normal (PVE), RP, or RPPVP.

Re: Server Style

Honestly in my experience the Norm or RP don't have anything to do with it. Its the PvE vs PvP, where I have noticed the greatest disparity. Both types of servers have their share of immature players, but I have noticed that PvE tends to be a little bit worse part of the reason most people call them Carebear servers.

I am sorry to say we play a game with a lot of kids. Every server I have a toon its about the same. I just leave most chat channels and if I have a question ask my guildies or google it

Re: Server Style

All servers are about the same when it comes to the people. Sometimes Rp servers are nice, because the rpers are generally much more mature people. However, every rp server has its fair share of idiots, trolls, and generally mean people. On my server its taboo to rp in the open, although it is a rp-pvp server. You generally get made fun of like your on a normal pvp server. The only reason I prefer Rp servers is that the naming rules are upheld for the most part and I dont see many ridiculous names.

Re: Server Style

I've played on a few different servers, both PvE and RP, and I have to say the maturity level on the servers I have played on is about the same whether horde or alliance. Why is it that there is always one specific person (can't say player because it seems they never actually play) who spams trade chat with moronic inane baloney? And it's always just one specific person and everyone knows that persons name.

Re: Server Style

The three or four servers I've played on were about the same as well. Each and every one of them had the "Anal [spell link]" spam in trade chat, in addition to all the regular everyday immaturity. I've found myself wishing for a better spam filter, or at least a easier to hit button for reporting the socially challenged.

Rule #1: Close Trade Channel.
Rule #2: Never break Rule #1.

That's it.

That being said, you should transfer over to my server. Drak'thul is a PVP server and seems pretty mature compared to the few others that I have been on. And I always welcome other Gnome Warlocks! =P

Re: Server Style

i had thought about transferring servers but i am not sure yet, i like the people i run with on Alleria plus my brother is on that server, the bad side is i am the only one that likes PVP so i have no one to run around with. i thought about making another character on a PVP server to see what it is like but i'm not sure yet.

i just hate the Trolls that roam the trade channel. i asked last night if we had a PVP guild on Alleria and i just got bombarded with jokes and insults just because i asked a question. there were a few people at my defense and a few people got reported but it was completely uncalled for. it would be nice if they had a 18+ year old server, no-one under 18 allowed but that would be impossible to regulate. i guess i will just have to suffer for now. lol

Re: Server Style

Its your lucky day, Ikabod I am a level 80 lock on Alleria as well. The name is Stavmar, and I like to PvP. So if you need to run a BG and want more lock support, just ping me.

Alleria is the same as all the rest, they talk and talk and talk, it is annoying but we do play with some kids.

Re: Server Style

While there are immature people (not just kids btw) everywhere, server culture does differ from server to server.

Mal'Ganis for example has a particularly harsh server culture on the alliance side, probably due to it being one of the first servers in the original WOW release. Every other servers I've been on has been a 'nicer' server towards new people.

That doesn't mean I didnt like Mal'Ganis, heck I even returned there after a long stint on as horde on another PVP server. But server cultures DEFINATELY vary as widely as guild cultures do

1) Read the realm forums, you can get a feel for culture there (although there are usually trolls in all realm forums

2) If you find a few realms you like, create some alts, listen to chat at prime time there and see if it suits you

3) If you can move a higher level low level alt to that server like someone who is level 30-40 and ask something innocent in trade and see how people respond to you.

I would venture to say some of the people who insulted you were over 18. I don't think the 18+ requirement would suffice to weed out crap as much as you might want it to be so, sadly.
