Help LVLs 35-38- bypassing stranglethorn

First off a big thanks to CRYPT!!! his warlock questing guide is great and very usefull. ol

I'm now at level 35 and ii've hit a lvling wall.

I took the guides advice and went to Stranglethorn Vale and flew into Grom'Gol, and within 30 mins of questing I had been ganked 15 times, and seen at least 5 different groups of alliance swarming the area. I'm on the Deathwing PvP server and the advice from guild mates is stay away from the area.

Was wondering if anyone can give advice of how to bypass the stranglethorn sections of the quest guide.

Currently my plan is to go to shimmering flats and just grind on mobs there.

any help for a fellow Warlock would be appreciated.

I spent lvl36-40 in STV, regardless of being on a PvP server. After leveling up 4 chars to 60, I've found that most of the gankers hang around Nesingwary's and near the entrance to Booty bay. There are lots of quests which take place elsewhere on the map.

Beside STV, you always have Desolace. Crappy place without a mount, though.

Re: Help LVLs 35-38- bypassing stranglethorn

At 36 I went to Desolace and although I do like the area at all I managed to get o 37 easily there, I only saw one player of the opposite faction and he ran away.
As psilocybe said though STV is ok if you are aware of the dangerous spots. There are plenty of areas to go, the Troll ruins on the beach for eg, the ogres just outside of GG camp are also usually pretty safe, that has been the case for me anyway.
Don't forget the Arathi Highlands, get to Hammerfall and do the Witherbark quests, the Fleshstalkers etc.
I love STV though, I chose a PvP server for this type of environment, even though generally speaking I am not very good at PvP, I still love the atmosphere that exists in STV. There are so many quests there. Desolace/Arathi Highland/STV are where you should be, once you get past that wall you'll be fine. Remember that not many alliance players around your level will want to tackle a Warlock anyway, not unless they have friends.

It's almost impossible to skip, unless you want to grind greens somewhere until you can go to the Hinterlands or Tanaris.

It's lame, but sometimes you have to go at off-peak hours to knock out a few quests. A lot of the kill quests are stackable such that killing the same mob will allow you to complete two or maybe even three quests. Some extra time spent planning which quests you have will level you up extra quick.

Agreed with the above posts...STV is just too great to level, you make several levels there easily...and if you look for somebody you can quest with, it's even more fun as you'll gain XP AND honor ol. Just don't skip STV - you'll miss out on lots of XP.

Or just kill any opposing factions' member you see. Helped me a lot in my time...when warlocks did not have todays' deathcoil and the DoTs were on their old durations getting jumped meant dying. And having to re-summon your pet and drink sucks big time if you're unsure about that pesky rogue...

I wish I was on a pvp server, this thread talks about stuff that sounds like a ton of fun. My guild didn't wanna roll on one though.

The Venture Company Geologists is a good place to grind xp if you're level 36. I don't know how safe the area is on a pvp server, but it's usually not too populated. They're plentiful, and if you have a chance to kill the machine dudes, they might drop fused wiring.

Playing on a PvP server, I totally skip STV and level in places like Arathi Highlands, Thousand Needles, Desolace, Swamp of Sorrows etc.

I was wondering the same thing when I first got to STV. Im glad I stuck it out though. However, besides the options mentioned, I have another one for you. I hate to recommend another site than this one, but I noticed that recently there is a new guide at www.wow-pro.com that is written for this exact thing. I think its called the anti-STV guide or something like that. I cant say for certain how good it is but might be worth checking out. Like I said, I stuck with it. The ganking seems to go in cycles. Some nights it was a nonstop gankfest, other times its pretty quiet. See if there is a high level in your guild willing to play bodyguard for a while. My guild is pretty good about this. Saved me tons of time in shimmering flats when I was getting corpse camped by one particular lamer. My guild leader, a 60 rogue, showed up and put that to rest pretty quick. But honestly there is such an XP boost going through STV because of all the grinding quests its hard to pass up.

EDIT: Again, I hate to steer people away from this great site, but also check james alliance leveling guide at the above link. It will help you plan your quests in STV for max efficiency.

Re: Help LVLs 35-38- bypassing stranglethorn

If you're level 35, the best place to solo grind on mobs is Arathi Highlands, the Witherbark Headhunters. They're plentiful, well concentrated, and not too many other players hang out here. They drop silver. You can kill them quickly without too much downtime.

The way I look up the best thing to kill is using Thottbot's NPC search. If you're 35, search for level 34's, aggressive to alliance/horde. Sort by Kills. This will show you what most people kill, and people kill that stuff because it makes coin.

This method is how I got to 60, and when I was done, I had so much coin I was the first person in my guild to buy an epic mount. (This was before the Dreadsteed quest was in the game so yeah... 900g).

Solo grinding might be a little dull, but frankly it's peaceful, easy, no running around all over the world, make fast xp, and make fast coin. I always did the quests that rewarded something I would actually use, or if I was playing with a guildy, questing is better.

Anyway, I realize lots of people find this method too boring to stand, so questing you shall go. Others in this thread already pointed out Arathi Highlands so you'll be okay.

You're big enough to start spending time in Scarlet Monastery. Can't get ganked in the instance.

Trust me, geting ganked by 60 people who are waiting for the arena chest to spawn/ZG/etc. is not fun.

Although when I reached 60 myself and helped a guildmate's alt level the zone suddenly felt much better. )
