Re: Mimiron - Boss Strat

Our guild got the 10M hard mode last night, but it required min/maxing our class balance and it ultimately ended up being an RNG fight.

I am also interested in any tips for a more...Repeatable approach to beating this hard mode.

From my attempts, I can say this:

Phase I probably ramps up in difficulty the most. The fire really is difficult to manage, and we tried everything from all starting in one spot to confine the fire to one side of the room, to alternating fire *kiters*.

In the end, Phase I got a lot easier to live through as players got comfortable with how fast the fire spread, and how not to box themselves in.

Once you're able to repeat the entire raid living through Phase I, you'll likely discover that the real challenge of P1 isn't just surviving...It's setting up properly for P2.

Phase 2 is only marginally more difficult than easy mode IMO. As long as fire hasn't limited your movement options terribly, it should be pretty straightforward and you should lose nobody here.

Phase 3 is where we still consistently have problems. Tanking the head isn't hard, it's taking care of the bots while there's fire everywhere that's proving challenging...Most specifically seeing and quickly destroying any bomb bots and having sufficient room to kite the assault bots.

Phase 4 seems like pure RNG. Get here with everyone up, you're probably going to win. Save all your cooldowns and makes sure DPS stays even on all segments just like easy mode.

General tips:

-Fire should generally be kited to the outer edge, leaving room to run in the middle.

-Survival AND DPS are the key here. You really can't afford to lose a single player and have the DPS/Healing/Tanking needed to win. This is the worst of both worlds...Staying on your feet for the entire fight while putting out the best possible DPS.

-Seems the closest person to a fire trail can *kite* it. If you have raid members who can spare the time and have the positional awareness skills necessary for this, try to ensure you've got someone who's quick and smart pick up the fire trails and kite them to the outer edge.

Having said that, no matter what your role or class is, if you have a fire trail following you, kite it out of the raid. They move agonizingly slowly, so get a feel for it, and learn to do your job while being chased.

-In P4, blow all cooldowns...Infernal, Bloodlust, Fire elementals, anything that can contribute toward ending the fight sooner. No matter how good you are at survival, eventually this fight will RNG you to death. Kill before you are killed.

Re: Mimiron - Boss Strat

I didnt see it mentioned here so I thought id post a cool trick. I tank the head in p3 and p4 in a pvp destro spec that goes far enough into demonology to grab soul link, also has added benefit of no threat reduction since I didnt take destructive reach. I use my normal raiding gear which is t8/8.5 and I use demon armor to take some pressure of the heals. Couple searing pains and then just my normal destro rotations keeps him pretty much glued to me the entire encounter.

My guild biggest problem, for whatever reason, was letting the bomb bots loose and having them instagib healers.

Good way to counter this to so pull out your voidwalker and make a macro to target bomb bots. While your tanking the head just have your void on head, he wont attack but he will position directly underneath it. When a bomb bot is spawned, wait until its feet hit the ground and have the void taunt and eat the bomb blast. My dps heals my void to full in between bomb bots. This frees up a raid member from tanking the bombs, and having your void up can be usefull for sacrifice if your point heals get otherwise distracted.

Cool tip, sorry if its a repost.

We just kite the boss around the outside edge of the room, he should extinguish all the fires at around 30% and at that point everyone should get as close to the walls as possible so new fires spawn there. During the transition to p2 we all group up near any fire that spawned. The frost bomb thing in p2 seems to always spawn in the biggest patch of fire, so doing it this way means that the room is pretty well cleared of fires for most of p2.

We actually found this pretty straight forward, we just move as a group anti-clockwise around the outer edge of the room. The emergency bot things seem to extinguish the fire fast enough that we can just keep going around the edge without ever having to worry about fire. Most of the raid focuses on the assault bots, while our deathknight stands outside the raid and eats the bomb bots. When a core is looted I line of sight the head in one of the doorways, this pulls the boss to the door and out of fire, so that a core can be used and everyone can burn the boss.

Also, when you talk about kiting the assault bots, do you mean you have ranged dps kite them or what? Because I haven't heard of anyone using this tactic except in 25 man back when ulduar was first released. Your MT should just be able to tank them. He'll get rooted occasionally but that can be dispelled as far as i'm aware.

Re: Mimiron - Boss Strat

Regarding hard mode, assault bots should be tanked by your MT. In our 25-mans, we have a second tank (or have a feral druid go bear) and soak bomb bots.

The key to successful phase 3 and 4 is to remember that there is a fire cap and work this into your strat.

Depending on the positioning/number of frost bomb(s) during phase 2, it's possible that you start phase 3 with the fire cap. To determine if you're capped or not, watch the fire explosion. If it doesn't leave fire (what we call a dud), then you're capped. Knowing this, designate the appropriate number of dps to take care of the emergency fire bots. We like using hunters since they're ranged and won't get silenced. Melee can also jump on the first set of EFBs since there won't be an assault bot up yet. If you can maintain fire cap throughout phase 3 and 4, then this will eliminate a significant amount of movement your raid would otherwise have to do.

If you reach fire cap at the start of phase 4, then it makes it a lot easier to make your raid spread around the room (to minimize hand pulse) since fire won't be bothering anyone. Keep in mind however that mimiron still casts frost bombs, so it's impossible to stay fire capped all throughout.
