Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

I recently respecced to destruction from demonology, and have to say I really missed my felguard.

But I've also realised how much I've been relying on the big fella - and that I'm not as good a pvp'er as I thought I was. Soul link gives you huge survivability and the felguard is a pet enemies cant ignore.

I went back to PVPing and tried my various pets - and really couldn't get along with them. I couldn't cope with my succubus for crowd control. Couldn't get to grips with the felhunter spell lock (I would see a caster casting and click spell lock, realise now I need to set the felhunter on the caster to close the distance and then spell lock - doh!)...... my imp added a bit of survivabilty to my stamina bar and a little bit of damage. Overall I was frustrated.

Today I got invited to the Steamvaults - and was asked to get my succy out for CC.

I let them know I wasn't comfortable with it - but this was a rare thing, a great, great PUG - they said give it a shot and they wouldn't criticise if i got it wrong, and they were true to their word.

So with a bit of practise It made all the difference.
I felt I had a real strong use in an instance.....

Managing to banish one mob, Seducing another and whacking out dps on the main target. (I just need to macro up reseduce now). It was a real lightbulb moment.

So after coming out the instance I got the felhunter out - and ran off to the village that's full of casters near shattrath (grangol var - or something like that) and practised my spell lock facility.

I can't wait to get back home to try out my newly acquired pet skills in a BG.

So for those (like me) that are sticking with one pet all the time, take a little time out and try out their unique qualities you wont regret it - and you will be a better lock for it.

(and once again a thankyou to warlocks den - I wouldn't have dreamed of using these pets if i hadn't learnt about it on this site).

I know the feeling. When I was Demo specced I *tried* to make sure I was using all my pets so I didn't get rusty with them, but it is very hard when the FG outshines most of the other pets in a majority of situations.

Now I'm having to relearn all my other pets now

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

..lol. The only pets I'm comfortable using for pvp are my imp and voidwalker. All the voidey does is give me a damage shield to eat through.. the Suffering cooldown increases threat, physically MAKING you attack the blueberry.

Imp.. just gets told to stay, and cast fireballs as I kite my enemy around inside the imp's blast radius. With ~80 damage every two seconds it adds up to another dot, and a powerful one at that.

The rest.. I know how it's supposed to be done. Succy, you seduce and then set up for their ultimate demise. Ker-Nuke.

Felhunter.. supposedly you're supposed to take on casters like nothing with this pet. I've tried numerous times and have not had the slightest bit of luck, so the only reason he gets summoned is to update his grimoires.

Anyone have recommendations for how to get that figured out? =D

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

I must admit - I didn't like the felhunter.

I would see an enemy casting and then click spell lock but the enemy got the spell out.

I realised that the felhunter really has to be on top of the mob you want to spell lock. So If I have the felhunter out I'm gonna be looking for casters, especially those healers that sit at the back healing the melee and set felhunter on them and take them down - or If I can find the addon for seeing the pet target casting ( is that target of target?) I'll tell it to lock while I burn something else.

(and I cant wait to go against a pally again - got sick of having to kill them twice).

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

I used to use my Felpuppy primarily in the BG's as my pet of choice. Once he got his blood taint into a rougue, they had to focus some attention on him and he was great against casters.

Add in the paranoia for stealth detection and he was the cats' pajamas.

Problem was that hunters and shammy's could eat you alive because they just ingnored the felpuppy.

Truth is tho - everyone has to deal with Felguard. Put him on defense and attack at will !

Yes the felhunter can eat any bubble. Once dueled a mage and he was like WTF are you hacking what happend to all my buffs, but he was just uneducated to the glory of the felhunter against casters.

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

Fulhunter > all in PvP. Eats anything with a mana bar (well, not hunters) without being an instant target like a succy or felguard. The thing is you need to be able to do the following things with him at will...

Spell Lock (not autocast + attack)
Devour Magic on your target
Devour Magic on you

Leave him on aggressive when in the open to get the jump on rogues, switch him to passive when in group combat and you need to interupt spells at will. Its fairly complex but very powerful.

xdiesp needs to behave if they want to remain on this forum.

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

After some time,I realized that demons are their functions: they work more like weapons, than players by your side. This would be much easier to realize if they were invisible. What I don't get is why they made everything but the voidwalker (and now also the FG) unable to tank at all: I would prefer my felhunter to stop the mob and get killed in 3 seconds, than looking at it lose aggro after one single tick of drain life...

Re: Oh my poor underutilised pets.....

Pardon me if I misunderstand, but what is this pet pvp tanking some are talking about? I understand that you mean pve xdiesp, but what does for example cynic mean when talking about his voidy and using suffering in pvp? Maybe it was a joke that passed me by, I don't know..
