Felhunter - best positioning for paranoia
having learnt to love my trusty felhunter I came to the conclusion that paranoia isn't absolutely brilliant. You get notification of that rogue when it's just too late on most occassions. Generally he's good if they are walking in towards you from the front.
Now, I've always run with the felhunter in the default follow mode. So he is standing right next to me. It occurred to me last night (whilst I'm away from WOW) that perhaps thats more due to where I am placing him. For those times I'm guarding something I wondered if it would be better to have the felhunter stay and then step in front of him a few yards. Given that any rogue is going to want to attack you from behind I wonder if this might just give you a little more advanced warning. Has anyone else tried this? |

Re: Felhunter - best positioning for paranoia
I don't think it would be all that effective.
The Felhunter places the Paranoia buff itself on both you and him, so you're both level xx characters with improved stealth detection. Placing him behind you would let him see the Rogue maybe an instant before you see the Rogue, so I don't see this granting any sort of noticeable benefit, especially considering the Rogue would have to go around YOU (unless he approached from significantly and directly behind, and if you're guarding something, that usually isn't possible), so you'd probably see him before your Felhunter does. That said, this is all my theorizing. |

i came to notice some time ago that paranoia seems to work as some sort of "cone" in front of the puppy

Re: Felhunter - best positioning for paranoia
I usually find a corner to cry in, if I know there's a rogue nearby.
Then, my demon hugs me and pats me on the back. Actually it's nice in thought, or should I say, a more desirable situation to hope for, that you could make what boiled down to a "ven diagram" of stealth-detecting circles to "catch" that rogue coming in from behind.... but frontal cone shape or not, as I'm not sure exactly how it works, I would assume the only way it could get you a split-second edge is if: 1. the rogue wasn't using any sort of movement speed increasing skills or buffs, etc... 2. yeah, he was already behind you. I would assume that you running in small circles always turning around might look retarded, but would be moving your 'detection' radius around more, as well as keeping your back just out of reach. this post was more of an affirmation of other good advice already given, rather than anything new. my apologies ![]() |

Re: Felhunter - best positioning for paranoia
As long as you have the paranoia buff, you have the stealth detection, regardless of Felhunter positioning.
The issue is that a lot of Rogues 1) Sneak up from behind 2) Have stealth enhancing talents/gear 3) Rapidly moved in on you -Gritz |

Re: Felhunter - best positioning for paranoia
Beyond sprint, which has a 2 min or so cooldown, and shadowstep, which I'm not familiar with yet, how does a rogue move in rapidly on a target? In my experience with my lower level rogue, stealth=slow.

Also, not really a speed buff, but Tier 1 talent in Subtlety "Master of Deception", reduces the chance for the enemy (you) to detect a stealthed rogue. Can have up to 5 points so each point makes it harder and harder for you to find the rogue. Last edited by voln; April 27, 2007 at 11:25 AM.. |
