Almost level 40 ? about Felsteed

I am currently on my first ever character (A 39 level Warlock). As I approach 40 I'm wondering about the Felsteed. I've heard it's simply a spell I buy from my trainer at 40 and that it will cost roughly the same amount as any regular spell upgrade. Am I right about this so far? Also, I've found that there are some speed upgrades (spurs, crop, carrot on a stick) that are available for mounts. Are these same speed upgrades available for the Felsteed? I question this because, if I'm correct, the Felsteed isn't an animal but a summons spell, and you can't necessarily apply spurs, or whatever it may be, to a creature summoned by magic.

Also, finally an unrelated question, is it true that as a Warlock, most go Aff to 50, then Demon at 50 to 70, and then spec a split between aff and destruction? Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Your Felsteed is summoned yes. But, once it is, it's just a mount. So the carrot and crop and the like all work like any other mount trinkets.

I started as Aff... switched to Dem to check out the Felguard at 60-65, now I am back to Aff because it fits my playstyle. Be careful about this, your spec is pure opinion and playstyle dependent. No one can tell you you will play better with one spec versus the other. You have to try it and see what works for you best.

The Felsteed is a spell purchase. You can read more about it here In the Pets section on the forum.

You can have a blacksmith put mithril spurs on your boots to increase the speed of your Felsteed. I'd recommend that you do that because it is an inexpensive upgrade. The carrot on a stick is also available via quest and will increase the overall speed of your mount as well.

These all will work on your felsteed, its a normal mount in WoW.

The riding crop works as well but depends on the weight of your "gold purse". Check the AH for prices.

Any build is fine - it depends on your playing style ,goals, and interests.
I was Demon for most of my seasons, with a turn to "Afflic" when I was heavy into the BG's.

Just pick a spec you enjoy and work it.

And the good news is the spell is only 90 silver for the mount (at least it is right now)
