Sacrifice - which buff for dps?

Hey!

I've recently discovered the awesomeness of sacrificing felhunter rather than succy. I was wondering what people think of using the felhunter buff for mana instead of succy for damage in raiding.

I was thinking in regards with how much time life tap takes from using damage spell rotation. Granted 15% is a lot of damage, but in long fights, which buff do you reckon is best for dps?

Felhunter is good for farming but 15% increase in damage is way better than the felhunters mana regen. Stick with the Sac Succ.

Succy, every time. Even if you don't have a shadow priest in your group, a healer will be able to toss you hots every once and a while. Capitalize on your soul leech procs by life-tapping down far enough so that a soul leech proc isn't wasted. Should be pretty much good to go =)

Re: Sacrifice - which buff for dps?

For general raid dps yea definitely the succy, But.. fights that tax mana quite a lot such as "Seed of Corruption Duty" Eg Illhoof Fight, id use Felhunter buff since those imps die in 2 seed pops anyway.

Mana intensive fights are well served by a felhunter sac, just as survivability fights are served by a void walker sac. You have to tune your abilities to the encounter.

One thing not to overlook, is that most builds have the .5 second summon talents. For long fights, you can always switch pets mid-fight if you need to. I currently run voidwalker sac on Mag until breakout because I'm on CoT duty and not DPSing, so I generally come out near full health/mana, and can insta-summon and sac a succy for DPS.

regarding sacrificing the succubus for that 15% shadow damage increase...

any one run the number on dps and know whther or not keeping the felguard out and slashing away is better or worse then scrificing the succubus for extra damage %?

That would really just depend on what you are doing. If you need a tank for your questing then you will always want to keep your pet out. If you are running an instance or raid, then I would sacrifice. The chance of the pet going off and doing something bad will give you a bad reputation on the server or with a guild.

Re: Sacrifice - which buff for dps?

i was thinking more along the lines of raids and dungeons. the felguard can be some nice dps, but does it offset the succubus' sacrifice.

i hear ya on the pet control... so far ive been pretty good about controlling the felguard... but one false move and wham, party wipe.

Re: Sacrifice - which buff for dps?

If you have enough points to be able to summon a felgaurd you shouldn't be sacrificing a succubus if you are looking for max dps. Having the FG out will be MUCH higher dps.

Re: Sacrifice - which buff for dps?

Felguard is great DPS, but takes some micro management. Always set to passive. Turn off Anguish, and turn off Cleave if your group is using crowd ctrl such as Polymorph.

When you get better you can toggle Cleave on and off when there is no CC, just remember to turn it off again.

The FG will do much more then "15% extra Shadow damage" of your total DPS - perhaps as much as 40% of your DPS when you can use Cleave.

Also, don't forget this key point: Threat from your FG belongs to your FG! Hence you don't hit the threat cap as easily.... very nice. I reserve Demonic Sacrifice for pet unfriendly encounters.
