Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
Well, I recently hit 60 and have done something not many other Warlocks have done: bought a normal, epic mount instead of doing the Dreadsteed quest. At first I hated myself for it, but then I realized that I was only spending approximately 200g extra. In my opinion, paying 200g extra as opposed to spending the long and frustrating hours trying to finish the quest chain is well worth it. I'm of course in Outland now, and it probably won't be long before I make that money back.
I'm just curious if any other Warlocks have actually done this. Am I stupid? Mad? A genius? |

Re: Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
Just nothing special. :-)
I never did the quest and I don't regret it. I somehow love the movement of wolves and enjoy my Frostwolf so that I will probably never exchange it. Or the black one? Hmmm... 200G is two to three evenings of daily quest work at 70 - so if you ever miss that money, you can remember your decision. Time is money in Wow and spending X hours for the quest line gives you more time for leveling. But then again, you must ask yourself whether you are powerleveling or playing for content. We both missed some content. |

i've a normal epic mount as well - I too love the epic wolf, and feel it suits my orc lock more than the dreadsteed
it's all personal preference at the end of the day |

Re: Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
its a passage to becoming a warlock, it doesn't seem right to not at least have it and if you so choose to use another mount...then fine. i also think its dissing your brother warlocks who leveled pre-bc/pre bg giveaway. i have a paladin and its the same thing with their mount, imo of course.

Hmmm, I'm on a RP server and I don't see myself riding anything else than my dreadsteed...it's a lock's mount so that's my only mount...

Re: Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
I did the dreadsteed line. Didn't take long at all and the XP took me a good chunk of the way to 61. You need to get lucky though. I had two scholo runs. The first one was with 3 Pala's all going for their epic mount. I told them I needed to go to the alchemy lab for my epic but as soon as we completed the Pala quest one of them hearthed and took the viewing room key wth him. I was a little bit annoyed.
My second go I was just spamming the trade channel to LFG and a lock from a good guild whispered me.He had three 70 guildies running him through so I got to tag along there and then to DM.I like the DS because it's unique to our class and I think pre-The Burning Crusade it was a mark of honour for locks but now it's just a nuisance when you can farm the coin for a normal epic mount. On the other hand, even though I bought the jar, gylph and lodestone, my DS cost a total of about 460g which is cheaper than a normal epic. EDIT: One of the best things about the DM run was that the 70s all went ahead to DM while the locks went back to the Burning Steppes. By the time we got to DM they had more or less cleared it so we only had the final bosses to kill. Last edited by Valimir; December 14, 2007 at 06:55 AM.. |

Re: Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
I thought long and hard about just buying a "standard" epic mount. I had a real struggle getting groups together to do Scholo and then the two DM's (needed the key as well). Now I have the dreadsteed and I'm well happy just to ride!
I can understand you not doing it though, I might buy another mount just to save the "Hot Hoof" for weddings, funerals and Sunday best! ![]() |

Re: Normal epic mount instead of Dreadsteed?
I did the Dreadsteed quest chain and think that it was well worth the time and effort. It's difficult yes but let's face it not THAT difficult - just some gold and a bit of persuasion and you're there. The ritual of summoning is an experience that I'm glad to have done and the mount is one of the coolest in the game.
I will get an honor mount at some point for increased anonimity in BGs |
