Re: Felguards, horrible?

I've been demo-specced with a FG since I could get one at lvl51(?) and I LOVE it.

I could not imagine myself playing without it. I've gone so far as to ONLY use the FG, even when doing PVP.

I know it's a bummer as the Felhunter is more viable in most PVP situations, except against rogues, but I just can't get away from that damn minion.

When grinding I fly through mobs with minimum downtime, as I balance my life drains, mana drains and health funnelling to the best of my abilities.

I simply just LOVE playing with the FG, so I can't make myself respec. That fact has cost me the chance to be in great raidi groups, cause they demanded me to respec in order to tag along.

The FG and I are 'till death do us part'. ;)

Suppose it may work in pve/grinding,
I find it unremarkable which is a shame for a top tier talent

Ah, maybe I should have stated that I do agree with the fact that the FG is underpowered as it is.

It has been nerfed to much and needs some serious love in the near future.

Still, I can't make myself spec out of it though.

It's our strongest weapon against warriors and rogue, and is the best pet for warlocks in raids (if they have it). What more would you like it to do?

I know that SL/SL is the strongest PvP spec right now for 2 man Arenas, but most 5 man and BG warlock use the fel guard.

Re: Felguards, horrible?

I've been at level 80 for about 3 weeks now and I spend a great deal of time in bgs. In fact, bgs are my favorite part of the game. I never thought that using a Felguard in bgs was so controversial until some Priest ripped me a new one in Alterac Valley the other day. I joined this forum today specifically because I found it on Google when looking for discussion about using a Felguard in PVP. I have read more negatives than positives which is somewhat shocking to me. I am not listening to the negatives and as far as I am concerned, that Priest in Alterac can kiss my a** and here is why...

1. Rogue Defense - Let's face it, Warlocks fear Rogues more than any other class when in pvp. The Felguard is the best line of defense against a Rogue. If I have my Felguard on aggressive, he can usually sense an invisible Rogues presence before i can even see him (same with Druids). If I get sapped, my Felguard stuns the Rogue and I dispel the stun with Every Man For Himself and then blast the Rogue with Death Coil. I then hit Demonic Empowerment which gives the Felguard 20% more attack speed and makes him immune to movement impairing effects for 15 seconds. This SOMETIMES gives me the ability to get the heck outta dodge and evade the Rogue. Unfortunately though, I still get owned by the Rogues 90% of the time.

2. Intercept - Felguards have a trait called Intercept which causes the Felguard to charge enemies it detects. This stuns the enemy for 3 seconds and causes 189 damage. This is particularly helpful to me in bgs like Warsong because if you are in one of the bases, your Felguard will detect enemies through the walls and simply run off and charge the enemy before anyone knows they are nearby.

3. Psychological Impact - Let's face it, some of our opponents panic. Unskilled opponents are especially prone to this when your Felguard charges them and stuns them. Skilled opponents likely don't run into Felguards as much because most locks don't use them.

4. Stats Booster - Before I got to the Felguard in my talent tree, I was always middle of the pack at the end game stats. My damage was marginal. My honorable kills was marginal. And my honor gained was marginal. The day I got my Felguard I suddenly jumped to the top. Today, I always sort out the stats and compare myself to other locks. 9 times out of 10, I will end up with higher damage, more honorable kills, and more honor. At the end of the day, that's why we are in bgs isn't it?

5. Great PVE Tank (good for bosses in Alterac Valley). All of my other pets die in nanoseconds when fighting bosses in Alterac. Felguard has gotten good reviews my many Warlocks in PVE mode because Felguard draws the most aggro. This comes in handy when in Alterac Valley against the bosses Galv and Drek.

One thing to note, if you use a Felguard you should have the Glyph of Felguard for the added boost. It increases your Felguard's attack power by 20%.

Lastly, here are some of the reasons why i do not like my other minions...

Imps - Yeah it boosts your crit, but so do gems and chants. I guess I just don't like my minion to serve as a dual caster. I need my minion to tank in order to keep my enemies off of me. Imps can be ignored by pvp opponents and sometimes it causes you to be toast in a jiffy.

Voidwalkers - Easily banished if there is another Warlock around and then you have no pet.

Succubus - Great for crowd control, but she dies too easily.

Felhunters - This is obviously the favorite of most other locks I see in bgs. But, the Demonic Empowerment buff (which is crucial for Demo specs) is a big doozie with the Felhunter. (see Skill Mastery: Demonic Empowerment for more info). Also, I realize the Felhunter is great against casters, but I prefer using my Felguard to rip them to shreds (remember he is immune to much of their spells with Demonic Empowerment) while I cast Curse of Tongues, DOT and then drain mana.
