Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
It depends a bit on how you play exactly.
I got a 6/44/11 raid-heavy spec which is overall bad for grinding, however my usual course of action is to send the FG in (only Anguish on autocast, no Cleave), Curse of Agony, Corruption, Lifetap, Drain Life. Mob dead, next. Ofc swap to Drain Soul the very last second if you need the shards. If I was to accept downtime for increased raw killspeed, 3 Shadow Bolts kill any mob. I let the FG taunt once, then lob 3 SBs, after the second I overaggro but the mob gets hit by the third and dies before it reaches me. |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
Ok, first of all, I did the same thing as you, but I switched to felguard at 50. It was hard at first, but you get used to it and it becomes efficient pretty fast. My guess is that you bought all the 'guard's grimoires, if so, here is what I basically do.
(optional) CoS to pull a mob, or if you just need more damage/less resistance 1. While enemy if running toward you, or if you're within range, use your felguard's intercept, stunning them 2. I usually wait to attack until the felguard does about |||| that much damage on the enemy. 3. 1 SB, then have the felguard use anguish. Then another SB. The opponent should be at about half health, or less depending if you got a crit (crits can or can not mess stuff up, it depends if you get more than on in a row) 4. Life tap to get full mana, then drain life to recover from the life tap. The opponent should be about dead by now (with felguard swings and all) 5. Searing pain if the health is still a bit high, or use this to kill the enemy if you don't have Shadowburn 6. Use shadowburn if the enemy has less than 10% health (I always keep one more SS than my bag capacity in case I get the timing off) 7. Use health funnel, and then you're set. Like I said, this is only what I use. It works well for me, but I'm not sure about you. And one final note is DON'T leave the felguard's abilities on auto-cast. It wastes a crapload of its mana. |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
I really like the felguard! I was aff for 70 levels, raid as destro, and spec felguard for pvp and grinding. I just send him in and gather 3 or 4 people and cleave to hold them then pick one off at a time with SB. Health funnel and drain life if needed. You end up drinking and eating a bit more at times but you are taking more mobs so it might be a bit of a push. But you can clear an area out in no time. Plus the one thing I really enjoy is the fact that most people will not even think about touching you when you have the felguard out.

Be sure to level up your healing to 375 and use mana feed 2/3 or better with Felguard. I rarely if ever need to eat or drink. I just keep lifetapping and bandging.

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
I'm using SL/SL build ( not at full becouse i'm still at level 55 ) but my void is more then enough to wipe entire mobs .. level 57 mobs ( 3 -4 ) and they cant kill him ...
When attacking mobs we must use our resources wiselly, fear 1 or 2 .. and use dots on the other 2 .. they will be dead when the other 2 come back .. then give life to your pet .. then simply repeat the actions ...... Be sure that the void simply agroo everyone or you will be dead ![]() |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
The Fel Guard is by far the sweetest pet you can have, yet once you hit 70 more options open up with more talent points. Frist if you want to keep the FG, you could give this a shot. Macro Immolate and Pet Attack to one button, yes I understand this is not optimal spell rotation but it gets damage on target for a quicker kill. By the time your immolate is finished casting the FG should have the target stunned and have him burning. Cast Curse of Agony and Corruption and then drain life/soul drain. Until you have the gear and talent points to go destro (which will not be for a while), remember you are a warlock and not a mage. One who kills efficiantly over time, not a 1 minute fireworks display followed by an all night binge drinking.
Edit note* While I leveling 60-70, I had the 41 for the felguard, and put every point I could in afflic. Last edited by JasonMW80; April 17, 2008 at 10:13 AM.. |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
Looks everyone has covered a good way to run FG. But being the kind of person I am I just have to put in my 2 copper.
For a start I'm running around in total netherweave gear (except hat and shoulders of course). The way I've been playing my lock...since VW days...is Corruption (my first 5 ever talent points went here to make it instant), Curse of Agony and Immolate. If I'm up against casters I usually throw in Curse of Tongues...esp against self healers. Once my DOTS are done I just work it with the wand. I'll use Incinerate (coupled with Imm) and SB against elites though. This works quite well with the FG as well. Since I also am lvling with a shadow specced priest, using Health Funnel and Life Tap are no issue especially when he is using Vampiric Embrace..it also heals your demon, and the party buffs do buff your demon. as Remember locks and shadow priests are very good mates. |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
Fairly simple approach to your everyday approach to mobs...by level 52 you should be able to get intercept for your gaurdy...
approaching a mob... Intercept Curse of Agony Corruption send gaurdy to another mob wait for him to land a few hits then Curse of Agony Corruption come back to the previous mob and immolate... tap if necessary and drain the second mob... mix it up alil and remember to continue keeping aggro on your gaurdy i managed to pull about 3 on average with this strategy |

Re: What are the basics to making the Felguard/Lock relationship a success?
When I was 6/44/11 it was pretty simple. I didn't even bother with dots.
Shadowbolt. Intercept from FG. Shadowbolt. Shadowbolt (if previous none of the first two crit). Shadowburn. Might not be the best way but it sure was quick. Intercept was on CD, I'd just Deathcoil, fear, or rely on a crit. ![]() |
