Why am i having such Dificulties with the FG?? HELP!

ok this is my Second time around with the FG, and i am dying like its on sale. I see so many posts with the FG being great i must be doing something wrong. I have been full afllic since the beginning, change to get the FG, died all the time switched back and in the outlands at 60 thought i'd give it one more try. I send him in 1st on mobs that are same or +1 on level and he barley hangs on. Now i've got to dots on the mob and i am draining him. He needs my health funnel and he barley makes it. Whats the deal? Doind something wrong? i even have improve life funnel. In afflic i could at least survive once the VW was destroyed cause of the amount of dots i had on not one but multiple mobs, the FG can barley take one. ANy suggestions would gratly help. thanks

I have farmed with locks that keep their FG out the whole time, and I don't see them dying too often nor health funnelling. Stupid question, but have you purchased all the grimoires for the FG?

Re: Why am i having such Dificulties with the FG?? HELP!

I didn't like the FG the one time I tried it, but I found http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=IV0bZbgczIizzekt that build to be the most effective at 60. if it were me I'd spend the next 2 talent points finishing Demonic Knowledge. Afflic is difficult to start with in outlands, but once I hit 240+ spell damage I was able to keep up just fine.

EDIT: Ignore that link, I can't seem to get it to link the build properly. It was 7/44/0. 2 talent points in Imp health funnel and 1 in mana feed.

Are you using his abilities? A felguard that doesn't use his threat ability will have a hard time keeping aggro. How long are you waiting before you start your dps sequence. I never had an issue with the FG (leveled from 1-70 as demo), but I did discover I could pull aggro quite handily if I tried.

Also, how many mobs are you taking on at once? I never found demo to be very effective at multi-mob tanking. Affliction was always better for that. That would be my 2 copper.

well thats probally one issue right there, i leave everyone of my pets in "auto" mode, 2nd i only send him after one at a time, i wait like 8-10 secs before i cast hem on him but if i don't act quickly he will be dead before the dots take any real affect.

Re: Why am i having such Dificulties with the FG?? HELP!

Honestly this is starting to sound like a bug in the game. A felguard should not die at all against a single mob of its level. I could send mine out and not worry about it dying while I took on another mob.

Here's how my usual battle sequence went with FG:
Send in FG, intercept mob; wait 2-3 sec for aggro; Corrpution/Curse of Agony/Immolate/SB; if I pull aggro and the mob is almost dead, shadowburn. Sometimes I would throw in DL or DS if I need the mana or shards. At the end my FG would be around 90% health. Rinse and repeat until he was around 30% then health funnel up to full again. This might go differently depending on the mob too. If the mob was a melee, they tend to hit very hard so my health funneling might be a little more pervasive in my grinding. Caster mobs the FG ate through with no problems. The only time my FG died was when I misjudged the strength of the mob or pulled 3-4 without intending.

Re: Why am i having such Dificulties with the FG?? HELP!

First of all, make sure your build is "helping" your FG out some. For example, it is good to have improved health funnel, unholy power, mana feed, and demonic resiliance...

Here is a link to the build i used at level 60 for my FG. 10/41/0 and work up to something like this at 70. 20/41/0. At 70, you can decide then what is best to spec to...

Further more, double check his grimoires, and leaving them on autocast is fine, especially if you have mana feed.

Here is a general sequence on how i approached a mob with my FG.

1) Pull
a) Send FG in with Intercept or
b) Curse of Agony to move the mob some, then FG with Intercept while still in range to do it

2) Cast Sequence
Curse of Agony* if you havent already
Corruption
Immolate
Life Tap
Drain Life
Drain Soul

You shoudnt have to wait 2-3 secs for him to build agro really, because Curse of Agony is slowly building up dps, and Corr will still take 3 secs before its first tick. And by then, the FG should have intercepted, taunted, and cleaved before your immo actually hits. Life tap for him to regain mana as well, drain life to get your health back up, and finish with a drain soul to top off you mana pool with improved drain life talent. you may want to use some sort of drain soul macro or addon or something to manage your shards so you can always finish a mob off with drain soul to get the mana return. for example here is a neat macro i use.

#showtooltip
/cast [nochanneling:Drain Soul] Drain Soul(Rank 1)
/script PU = PickupContainerItem; D = DeleteCursorItem; PU(4,20); D();

if you have a 20 slot soul bag this will work nicely to never have shards overflow into your other bags. (provided your soul bag is the farthest left bag on your bar). If you have another size bag, replace the 20 above with the size of the bag...

Other than that, stick with it, double check your build, grimoires, his abilities on auto, and time your cast sequence and play around with it for a while. eventually you'll be sending your FG into groups of 3, while you burn one, dot another, fear the last, ect... the FG is an awesome pet, it just takes some getting used to...

Hope I helped.

To the OP:
Could you post a link to the FG spec you are using?
As said before, it's not normal that your pet dies when fighting one mob at once (until it's an elite one with heavy damage output)
For myself I can count on my fingers the times I used health funnel on my FG, even in raids.
