No, you won't -need- either, especially if you're going for speed and racing yourself. Neither is a direct improvement over the void/imp, if that's what you're asking. You'll just be less flexible, and you wouldn't want to level demo without getting those pets.

Get the quests and do them.

You don't have to train them or summon them, but on a pvp server (doesn't say in your sidebar) or in a BG, you'll want one of them out.

Succy saved me a few times in STV, and once I got the puppy, I never even considered pulling my blueberry out.

First of all, good luck hitting level 70 in 5 days, if you are not rested nearly 100% of the time, it will be really hard.

It is not necessary to get the Succubus and Felhunter under lvl40, they are not the best pets to PvE. This is what i suggest

1-10 Imp: You can't do anything about it ...

10-40 Voidwalker: Taking Capabilities, simply DoT, Drain Life, Life Tap *Put your talent points in Affliction*

40-50 Imp: Although it may seem weird, using your imp is the best way to reach level 50. All you do is DoT, Drain Life, Life Tap and Dark Pact. Don't forget to throw in a little improved Drain Soul, for extra mana. Using a shard manager addon is really useful.
The imp's stamina bonus is really helpful, try to get alot of +dammage gears. The imp also has a insane mana regeneration, you will never be OOM and barely never drink/eat. Don't forget to turn your imp's firebolts off, you need his mana.

50-70: Felguard: At level 50, respec Demonology to get the Felguard. Some might switch only at 55, for instant Corruption, but i recommend switching at level 50. Put your other talent points in Affliction to continue Drain Life/Life Tap. If you want to hit lvl70 in 5 days, you will need to save as much time as possible, so using this technique will save you a ton of time on drinks/food.

Well, you don't NEED the pets, but you do get a really nice bag for your shards from the succy quest (& a bigger one from the felhound I think?)

I like to run a demo spec, so for me its a no brainer -- Free soul bag? GIMMIE!

What probably happened is that the person in question checked the box to hide low level quests, but who knows.

I would just do them because you get experience and can try out the pets as you level. You never know, but i would say if you're interested in Demo then Rubixcube is on the right track. Me, I leveled with the blue guy and dot and run strategy and switched to imp sometime in outlands i think. /shrug To each his own.
