Re: pet thoughts
In instances I never ever have Void out, (the shield has no point there) I'm affliction so never sac demons for buffs, here is what in my humble opinion the right pet for the right situation :
- Conceited Imp : +Sta buff is not only a plus for you but for all the party, so think of the group, and extra manapool. - Succy : If there's a lack on CC (hunter is on holiday, mage is counting sheep and rogue vanished) I pull out the Succy, she ok on CC but lets be honest other classes have a more reliable CC. - Fellpup : never comes out in instances,he only gets fresh air when I'm in a pvp situation. - Big Blue Butler (Void) : also never comes out in an instance, but he's my favourite when grinding or running dailies. - Fellguard : sadly I gave him up when I chosen Affliction. - Doomguard : permanent vacation. - Infernal : only comes out when we visit the Silvermoon Zoo |

Re: pet thoughts
It greatly depends on the party and their gear.
When in a good party (and especially with pally tank, I love them !!!) I sac my succy and go all out dps. If the party are below my level, undergeared or inexperienced (i usually do MT and Crypts for enchanting recipes - no luck untill now), I take out the imp for sta and threat reduction. Sometimes party members ask me to summon the VW for offtanking or large mob groups, so ... Suffering and SoC. |

Re: pet thoughts
I've tried the saccing the succy thing before a few times.
IMO being heavy demon spec it just doesn't work at all for me AT ALL. My spell damage is greatly reduced with no pet out. Although its a 15% shadow buff I am looking Soul Link and DK not to mention the added DPS and protection from my Felguard or whatever pet i have out. I can totally see doing this as alliction or destro spec because these extra buffs don't usually apply but demon spec you always loose saccing your pet. |

Re: pet thoughts
As demo spec there is a situation where you can sac your pet: if there is a demon to enslave. You're allowed to soul link enslaved demons and you get DK from them much less while keeping the DS buff on you.
Hrm the felguard cleave thing must not have made it live as there were about 3 abilities that were supposed to be made to not break CC to include avenger's shield which did make it live. How did the mage force you to get soc agro unless you he was single targetting(which you should do on those mana beasts for about 2 mobs first anyway)? If he did enough damage to kill your soc target then he still should have had aoe agro. I should probably be more specific though maybe as saying the succy is always a prime choice for a blasting spec once you're at a SSC/TK gear level or equivilent |

Re: pet thoughts
Dogwatch, I've compared the different pet vs pet sac situations as FG raid spec using Leuiliers. You are better off having an unbuffed FG sitting there doing nothing (due to DK, MD, and SL) then saccing a succubus. Of course there are situations where it is impossible to keep even an inactive FG alive, so in these cases the next best is to sac a succy. A buffed FG is even better.
Pure Balance, the mage started AoEing immediately blowing my first SoC before I could put 2 other seeds on them. Thing is that getting aggro is inevitable, I accept that, but the goal is to have AoE hit fast and have mobs dead before they can kill me or mage. So with this in mind, the lock should be able to seed 3 mana beasts first, and as soon as seed detonations occurs/imminent, the mages should let rip as the lock will not get another SoC off due to pushback before dying. Note that SoC has a dot component, so although the fuse is = to the detonation damage amount, this fuse decreases over time quite quickly. The mage has only to do 3/4 of the fuse damage to complete damage, then the lock gets full aggro. |
